A mix of styles and a cool nursery for different-sex children: an apartment for a family in Chelyabinsk Design 27.06.2022 The couple asked the designer to “make it beautiful and meet the budget.” Wishes are fulfilled! Look at what it looks like. Customers and tasks The owners of this apartment are a married couple with two children: an 8-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son. They wanted to organize a common area and allocate private blocks for themselves and children, preferably at different ends of the apartment. According to stylistic preferences, the couple did not quite converge. The spouse liked the lightness and softness of the Scandinavian style, the spouse liked the strictness of minimalism. Designer Yulia Pomaznyuk had to combine these wishes and create a comfortable interior for parents and children. Layout The layout from the developer with a large kitchen-living room, two rooms, bathrooms and a dressing room was initially successful, so the designer practically did not change anything. Only expanded the opening from the kitchen-living room to the hallway to install a high glass partition instead of a door (so natural light gets into the entrance area) and “moved” the opening to the bathroom for better ergonomics. “The common area remained in the middle of the apartment, the left wing relative to the entrance to the apartment for children (nursery and bathroom), the right for adults (master bedroom),” the designer comments on the layout. Finishing For the floor in all areas, a quartz-vinyl coating for light wood was chosen. Quartz vinyl is durable, withstands humidity, is not as sensitive to mechanical damage as wood, while it imitates it well to the touch and externally. Therefore, it is well suited for living rooms, and for the hallway, and even for bathrooms. There is paint on the walls in the kitchen-living room, bedroom and hallway. In the latter, an unpainted brick from the developer was partially left and painted, the same was done in the dressing room. In the nursery, decorative plaster and wallpaper with a fantasy pattern were used, where a whale “floats” through the sky with clouds along with a ship and a balloon. The “marine” theme in the nursery was also continued in the design of the facades of the closet and even supported in the children’s bathroom by choosing a tile of a deep blue-green shade and “scattering” it against a white background (the designer compares this laying with scattered small stones). Speaking of the master bathroom, which is adjacent to the master bedroom, tiles of several types and formats were also used there. In the shower there is a large-format porcelain tile of a deep red-brown shade. The sink area is decorated with small beige tiles. The same quartz vinyl is on the floor, it is also laid out on the wall behind the toilet installation. In general, this bathroom is the embodiment of minimalism, which is close to the owner. According to the author of the project, it was in the design of this bathroom that the head of the family was included most of all. Finishing the ceiling also needs to be paid attention, speaking about the interior. In the common area of the kitchen-living room and hallway, the designer used a non-standard technique, namely the color coloring of the stove. We chose a blue-green shade, which “deepened” the ceiling. This example is proof that the ceiling does not have to be white. However, in the kitchen area it is omitted and painted just white, but this is due to the need to hide engineering communications. In addition, this solution has become an additional element of the zoning of the bright kitchen area. Storage systems There is a separate dressing room in the corridor. The designer has thought out a mobile system where you can clean and add different storage modules to optimize it. In the bedroom there is a wardrobe “around” the bed. The spouses’ belongings are stored on each side, and there are places for seasonal items under the ceiling. In the bedside table opposite the bed, you can store various little things. In the nursery there are two cabinets for each child with open shelves for books. There are also separate wall shelves. Children have a large collection of books, they love reading. The kitchen set is linear with an island. The island is designed as an additional work surface and storage space. In the hallway there is an open hanger for casual clothes and shoes, and in the bathrooms there are cabinets for sinks. Lighting The main lighting scenario is track and built-in ceiling lights, and an additional scenario is implemented with built-in backlights. Floor lamps, table lamps and suspensions were deliberately abandoned. Designer Yulia Poliznyuk, author of the project: The spouse was for the Scandinavian light style, the spouse for the strictness of minimalism. The elements of the loft in the interior flowed out of the budget for the project (left sloppy brickwork in the hallway, painted ceiling slabs). Opposites were combined here. The contrast can also be traced in the color solutions of the interior: dark common areas (corridor and living room) as opposed to light airy personal (bedroom and nursery). And the love of abstract prints thematically united the rooms.
