To make everything black — this was the main wish of a married couple who entrusted the project of their new apartment to designer Olga Koposova

“The project’s customers are a young married couple with a little daughter. The main wish was a dark color scheme. Black is the favorite color of the landlady of the apartment. She works as a sommelier and travels a lot with her family, and dark interiors are associated with her favorite business and hotels,” says Olga Koposova.

“The apartment was with a free layout. Wet zones were removed along the floor, and a metal support was located exactly in the center of the space, which could not be removed. As a result, the whole layout was formed around this support: we surrounded it with built-in cabinets, thereby solving the storage issue. In addition, the developer rented an apartment without a floor screed, which made it possible to make indoor convectors in all rooms and make full-length windows, getting rid of window sills.”

“Despite the fact that the customers asked to make all the walls dark, they still managed to persuade them to paint the areas next to the windows in light gray so that there was more light in the apartment. Due to the bearing support, the cabinets in the corridor could not be lined up in one line, so at the paint selection stage, we were looking for the color most suitable for the facades of cabinets and kitchens.”

“In fact, the desire to “make everything black” to some extent simplified the choice of finishing materials and furniture. So, for example, we took black interior doors and kitchen cabinets with the darkest facades that the factory produces. The kitchen was supplemented with a black countertop and an apron.”

“In the bedroom, a picture from Frameless.art deserves special attention. The small relief of the image harmoniously echoes the texture of decorative paint for concrete. We also upholstered the bed with the darkest fabric we could find.”

“In the bathroom, we organized a niche for shampoos along the entire wall. To do this, we had to sacrifice 15 centimeters of area. But it was worth it! Lighting has been built into the niche to create a more intimate atmosphere.”
