With the arrival of the third child, the family decided to update the interiors of their Moscow apartment. The designer decorated the rooms, inspired by the natural palette.

Presenting a debut project is always a big responsibility. In this case, it is doubly exciting, because Anna Pavlovskaya, co-owner of the Moscow showroom Good Look Room, acted as an interior designer. This is a very cozy, well-known to all decorators of Moscow, a platform for creative experiments with a rich collection of decorative fabrics and wallpapers. The apartment (180 sq m), the design of which was supervised by Anna, is located in the south-west of Moscow in a residential complex next to a beautiful park and lake. “My customers Gleb and Svetlana have been living here since 2003,” says Anna. — There are two children growing up in the family. And while working on the project, a third baby appeared, which, by and large, became the root cause for updates.” The designer had a feeling that the whole family had long “outgrown” the interior. “We agreed on the reluctance to create an interior for show,” says Anna, “I wanted the space to become consonant with each member of this large family, and they are so different!”

“The difficulty was that I was preparing the project, focusing not on bare concrete walls, but on the old plan of the BTI and the impression of the already finished interior that I had to work with,” says Anna. – Low ceilings caused a desire to visually stretch the space upwards, not in breadth, and inclined to the classical layout, the windows determined the location of the rooms.” The left part of the apartment is private. There are children’s rooms, a bathroom, a dressing room and a laundry room. The three windows on the right side of the apartment had a living room, a kitchen and an “adult territory”, which includes the master bedroom, a dressing room and a bathroom. In the center of the apartment there is a hall, a guest dressing room and a bathroom. Two mirror-lined passages lead from the lobby to the private and front areas. The private part of the apartment can be isolated by a sliding door. “If you open it, the two halves of the apartment are united,” explains Anna. – Transitions helped me to support the theme of the interior, which I conditionally titled “Seasons”. There are rooms here that remind of summer, spring, autumn and winter. In accordance with the chosen season, I selected finishing materials, a palette, and accessories.”

“It was important for me to create a balanced interior, and balance is always a counteraction, a harmony of contrasts,” says Anna. – Therefore, the cold range and smooth surfaces of the walls are softened by the rich textures of wool, linen in the upholstery of furniture. On the floor, warm wood contrasts with cold marble. Aged mirrors, as if bound by ice, reflect warm sunlight.” For the decoration of walls, ceilings, joinery, the designer used about twenty shades of paint. “Given the small size of the rooms, I decided to “dissolve” all the large pieces of furniture by painting them in the color of the walls or similar tones,” says Anna. The decoration is dominated by natural materials – wood, marble, clay tiles. “Such materials not only create the necessary tactile sensations in the interior, but are also more practical, since they age naturally and beautifully,” says Anna.

The entrance area, according to the designer’s idea, is autumn, like a cashmere coat designed to “embrace” and invite into the house. Here the main palette is indicated, which is further distributed throughout the apartment – shades of amber, green, sky blue, red. All these colors are found in every room, but their shades differ – in accordance with how they transform in nature with the change of seasons. The living room is responsible for the winter mood. Here the windows look to the northeast, the sun looks in here infrequently, so the shades are chosen cool. All the colors seem to be dusted with snow.

It was decided to isolate the kitchen from the living room, while visually not breaking these two zones. “Otherwise, the distance from the sofa to the working surface of the kitchen would be too small,” says Anna. – And it would be simply impossible to combine relaxing in the living room and cooking in the kitchen. At the same time, the hostess loves to cook very much, it was necessary to reunite her with her family.” By making a window in the wall between the kitchen and the living room, the designer was able to solve this problem. Two passages to the kitchen on the sides of the window helped to build a logical and convenient trajectory of movement from the living room to the kitchen and from the kitchen, bypassing the sofa, to the dining room, located in the bay window.

There is a separate area for the master bedroom, dressing room and bathroom, which can be accessed through a secret door in the living room. “Spring is blooming in the bedroom. In general, it was within these walls that the idea of the “Seasons” was born,” says Anna. – The owner of the apartment Svetlana loves fresh shades of turquoise, mint and asked to make the bedroom in a spring palette.” The task of increasing storage spaces was solved, among other things, with the help of built-in cabinets forming a niche for the bed. Given a separate dressing room, there is enough storage space here.

The private part of the apartment, which is almost completely given to children, conveys the mood of summer. There are just three children, as well as the summer months. “Here all the accent colors sounded more sonorous, but the background for them is the same, neutral,” Anna comments. – From the windows of the children’s rooms there is a beautiful view of the courtyard and the lake. In general, from the point of view of space perception, I tried to convey a mood of calm and relaxation in all lines and shades. It was fabrics – and this is still a special topic for me – for upholstered furniture, curtains, pillows, bedspreads that set the general color scheme of the apartment. This is also convenient from the point of view that the interior turns out to be mobile and ready for new changes. I think these changes are just around the corner! And they will be no less exciting.”
