Apartment for the architect’s family: how did you manage to design a complex layout space | ivd.ru Design 27.11.2022 The author of the project and the hostess of the house thought out the space so as to organize a comfortable common area, two bedrooms and two dressing rooms, as well as leave two bathrooms provided by the developer. This apartment belongs to architect Nadezhda Abramova, the author of the project, and her family. Nadezhda is professionally engaged in interior design, and is also fond of furniture restoration. The spouse works in the IT field, his hobby is triathlon. There are two children growing up in the family: a six-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy. When designing her own apartment, Nadezhda wanted to take into account the correct zoning of the space, it was important to arrange a common area away from the children’s room. It was also necessary to arrange spacious storage systems, to provide a place to store the spouse’s bicycle. Layout The developer rented an apartment without partitions, so Nadezhda had to think over the layout from scratch, taking into account the “wet” zones. The kitchen and living room were made united. We have allocated a bedroom for children and parents. The nursery is away from the common area, as I would like. A separate dressing room was decorated in the hallway. The developer provided two bathrooms. One of them was made private, adjacent to the parent’s bedroom. There was also a dressing room, and the entrance to the bathroom is organized through it. Finishing Paint was chosen for the walls in the common area and the parents’ bedroom. The kitchen-living room is a neutral gray color. On one wall, the wallpaper is the same gray shade, but with a pronounced texture. In the parent’s bedroom, a delicate green color was used. In the children’s themed wallpaper. Laminate herringbone is laid on the floor, excluding the “wet” areas of the hallway, a small area next to the kitchen set, bathrooms. Tiles were used in the decoration of bathrooms on the walls. Storage systems and furniture The apartment has two dressing rooms, one of which is decorated in the hallway with shared access, and the second is private for parents’ personal belongings. In the nursery there are free-standing cabinets for things and toys. The kitchen set chosen in IKEA is minimalistic furniture with facades without handles of gray color. The lower bases are installed at an angle, and they decided to partially abandon the upper ones, focusing on a spectacular marble tile apron and a fireplace hood. Also in the living room, a hanging pedestal is thought out for storing small things. There are several vintage items in the apartment. The armchair in the living room was restored by craftsmen, but the console in the hallway was transformed by Nadezhda herself, using paint for the case and wallpaper for decorating the countertop. Lighting Lighting scenarios were thought out for each zone, and lamps were selected in the general concept of a modern interior. So, in the kitchen-living room, overhead spots were used, sconces on the wall above the sofa and next to the dining table, as well as suspensions above the table. The bedroom has a central ceiling chandelier and sconces on the wall above the bed. There is spot ceiling lighting in the walk-through areas. Architect Nadezhda Abramova, author of the project and hostess: We chose this apartment because it has a lot of light, large windows in the kitchen-living room. It was necessary to create a comfortable, ergonomic space taking into account the modern vision of interior design, to use calm shades for maximum relaxation at home. There is a lot of art here, I adore paintings, I paint them myself and often visit galleries.
