The living room and dining room are located in a single space and are separated from the kitchen by a sliding glass partition. The main shade of the interior was chosen pearl gray color of morning fog. The ceiling is painted in a gray-blue tone, which gives it depth and emphasizes the beauty of the molded cornice. Paints, Ressource. Above the antique oak table hangs the only chandelier in the entire apartment — vintage ItalianYanka from Stilnovo hails from the 1980s. Sofa, Milano Home Concept. Chairs, Deep House. Console, Caracole. Carpet, Dovlet House. Painting and graphics, Gallery 11.12.

The high—rise on Kotelnicheskaya Embankment is an ageless symbol of Soviet luxury. “The house is well known for films and famous residents,” say designers Elena Tikhonova and Igor Kurkin. — The aura of mystery is added by endless corridors for wiretaps, niches for weapons, which, among other things, we discovered during the repair process. Although the apartments in the modern sense are quite compact. The area of this one, for example, is only 71 square meters, but there are two entrances — front and black.”

A married couple of customers had completely different wishes

The customers — an adult married couple — bought this apartment when they got bored of life in the country. “It is difficult to imagine more different people in appearance and character,” the designers note. — The spouse, a noisy extrovert and a buffoon, longed for involvement in the repair process. The spouse is closed, completely relied on the professionalism of designers. He wanted a hospitable living room with a large table for receiving guests. She dreamed of a cozy, enveloping atmosphere where she could hide from everyone and be alone with her thoughts. What united them was the desire to get a bright interior without a deliberate “rich” decor, but not devoid of respectability.”

The list of necessary rooms included a spacious living room, a comfortable kitchen with the possibility of its isolation, many storage systems, a laundry room, and most importantly, an isolated bedroom, although the original layout implied an adjacent isolated room. The rejection of a long corridor made it possible to implement the idea. Otherwise, the historical structure of the layout has been preserved.

“As for the decor, there was nothing to save,” the designers lament. — The lost stucco and parquet had to be restored on their own. Modern windows with electric drives were made according to historical geometry. The front door is also new, but from the entrance it does not differ from the older “sisters”. Porcelain stoneware on the kitchen floor is an enlarged drawing of the glazing of the lost interior doors. To unite the space, almost all the walls were painted in the same color. Even the door to the bedroom was decorated in the form of a continuation of the closet in the hallway. Zoning is done only with plaster decor on the walls and almost ephemeral partitions made of colored glass, which create an interesting game of glare.”

“Suede wallpaper created a warm, enveloping bedroom interior”

“In this project we have two types of furniture: chameleons and accents,” Elena Tikhonova and Igor Kurkin say. “Accents are, for example, turquoise chairs in the living room. Chameleons are all storage locations that mimic space. Cabinets are hidden behind mirrors or painted in the color of the walls, like a kitchen. By the way, the most extraordinary solution was the kitchen hood built into the upper part of the antique sideboard. The customers did not accept this idea in any way. I had to take a risk and implement it at my own expense, offering customers to make a decision already after the fact, and in case of refusal to hang a regular hood. The hosts accepted the result with a bang! This unusual element completed the image of the interior, built on the combination of authenticity and modernity. This combination takes the interior beyond the time frame. I think it will be interesting in many years, as well as the high-rise in which it is located.”

“The color scheme of the enveloping bedroom interior was determined quite simply,” the designers say. — The customer fell in love with the berry-colored suede wallpaper from Arte. We pasted them behind the headboard and repeated the shade on the walls.” A huge bed with a leather headboard is made according to the sketches of designers at the Loftmark factory and is perceived as a continuation of the wall behind the headboard. Curtains at the level of the windowsill are beaten off with a gold border in the color of the cornice and edging matched to the tone of the walls. Vintage table lamps. Curbstones, Lexington.
