The apartments are located in Majorca, where the sun shines 320 days a year. The island has a rich history: it survived the domination of pirates, Carthage, Ancient Rome, Aragon, the Cordova Caliphate. Extraordinary personalities lived and worked here at different times: George Sand, Frederic Chopin, Juan Miro,Antonio Gaudi (Antonio Gaudi), which left a mark on the richness of the architectural and cultural heritage of the island.

At the same time, there are many examples of modern Spanish architecture and art to be found here. The nature of the island is diverse and beautiful. Vineyards, olive and orange groves, pastures, mountains, waterfalls, caves and more than four hundred beaches have made the island popular among millions of tourists. Gourmets can visit eleven Michelin-starred restaurants here.

All this attracts wealthy people from all over the world to Majorca, who often acquire real estate here. On the other hand, the specifics of the skeleton are modesty, simplicity, unwillingness to show off wealth. The design of local interiors is dominated by calm colors, local natural stone and wood, deliberately rough objects. Majorcan relaxed Mediterranean style has something in common with Alpine chalets.

The apartments are located in a new modern house designed by the Spanish architect Miguel Olazábal. The interior space consists of a spacious kitchen-living room with a terrace, a master bedroom, two small rooms and two bathrooms. The windows overlook the sea, the Marvient Palace (the place of the Spanish royal family’s summer vacation), the park and the local architecture.

“Apartments in Spain are mostly rented already with a basic finish, which includes a built-in kitchen and storage systems, as well as ready-made bathrooms,” says decorator Natalia Vysotskaya. – The walls, doors and built-in furniture are decorated in white, the finish is made of natural stone of a warm shade, wooden blinds are installed on the windows. Panoramic glazing creates a sense of spaciousness and volume. The main source of illumination is natural. Such objects are ideal for the creative process of the decorator.”

The owners of the apartments are a family with young children, they loved the island at first sight and wanted the interiors of their house to reflect the spirit of these places, but at the same time different from typical Majorcan apartments. The space had to be elegant, cozy and functional, suitable for every family member. It was necessary to implement all this in a fairly short time: customers took four months to do everything about everything.

The heart of the house is a living room combined with a kitchen, from which you can admire the beauty of the local nature, the sea, sunrises and sunsets. Thanks to the competent zoning, you can spend time in it with the comfort of the whole family. The highlight is the terrace with a transparent glass railing, finished with natural stone. Here the designer has arranged a cozy recreation area with garden furniture, a carpet resistant to sunlight and bad weather, an awning to protect from the scorching sun, street lights with candles and of course with live plants.

A lot of textiles are used inside, the color scheme of which supports the natural colors of the island: the blue of the sea, the greenery of plants, warm shades of stone and wood. At the same time, the furniture and decor elements are designed in a modern style and reflect the tastes and character of the owners of the house.

“To reflect the local culture, the walls were decorated with posters and original works by Majorcan artists”

“One of the unexpected problems was the almost complete absence of decorative fabrics and carpets on the market,” says Natalia. – Traditionally, in the houses of Majorca, textiles are used exclusively functionally: to hide from the sun. Preference is given to technical rollers and plain white fabrics. Carpets here are a real rarity, due, among other things, to the climate and humidity. Although modern apartments are equipped with warm floors and climate systems that solve the problem of humidity, carpets have not caught on.”

“Therefore, branded carpets and handmade carpets were made to order for this project. After their delivery, it turned out that they left the smallest villi, which were transferred to the white furniture and gradually covered the floor. I had to additionally call a dry cleaner to clean the upholstery of upholstered furniture. The carpets themselves had to be returned and ordered new ones from Moscow, from another manufacturer.”

“We are proud that we managed to create an original interior that reflects the spirit of Majorca. At the same time, the apartments are restrainedly elegant, without deliberately simple forms and rough materials. We completed the project on time: neither the measured pace of life of Spaniards, nor the coronavirus and lockdowns could slow down our work. It is believed that in Spain it is impossible to design an interior faster than in 6-8 months, but this is the second project I have implemented in Majorca in record time for Spain,” the designer proudly says in conclusion.
