Soft colors, shapes, but strict lines and the use of cozy materials made this minimalistic interior warm and cozy.

Customers and tasks

This apartment is located in the Basmanny 5 apartment complex. It belongs to a young woman executive director of the bank, a creative personality who paints pictures, is fond of sewing, photography and listens to vinyl. 

The DUO studio team had a task to make a comfortable space for living and hobby activities. The kitchen and living room should be “open” to the hallway, enough space was needed to store the hidden, minimalistic. In the bathroom, I wanted to separate the toilet from the bathtub and hide the first one from the entrance. 

Layout

The status of the apartment housing did not limit the designers in creating the layout. Of course, we focused on communications, but the redevelopment in the apartments does not obey those strict rules that are relevant for residential apartments.

So, initially a large space was free of partitions. The entrance is almost in the center. To the right of it was allocated a large bathroom with a laundry area. On the left is a storage room where you can organize the storage of various things. Directly from the entrance there is a living room combined with a kitchen. From the living room there is an exit to the bedroom, and from the bedroom to a private dressing room. 

Finishing 

The walls were made smooth for painting. An engineering board has been laid in residential areas. There are tiles in the kitchen for practicality. The same was done in the hallway and the “wet” area was allocated with tiles. Bathroom (walls, floor) it is lined with the same large-format tiles as the floor in the hallway. In front of the bathtub and in the toilet area, an accent was made and a dark finish was used. 

In general, the combination and “flow” of finishes and colors from room to room is characteristic of this interior. This was done not only in the hallway and bathroom. For example, the wall with the entrance door is painted in a complex turquoise shade, which is also applied on the walls in the bedroom and on the balcony. 

Furniture and storage systems 

It was important for the customer to equip hidden and functional storage systems. However, this presupposes the chosen style of minimalism. 

So, at the entrance to the apartment, two high wardrobes for clothes and shoes were made. Between them is an “invisible” door to the utility block. There are also hooks for clothes that cannot be hung in the closet yet, for example, if it is wet. And a console for small things, like keys or sunglasses. 

In the living room, a hanging bedside table was provided, which is “embedded” in a high pencil case. A pencil case with closed doors without handles, but there are open shelves for books on the side. The same architecture of furniture was continued in the design of the kitchen island, where the dining table “crashes”. The island is a functional addition to the kitchen. Drawers and built-in sockets are made here so that small household appliances can be connected. The kitchen itself is lined up. High columns, upper cabinets to the ceiling, facades without handles, it is minimalistic and spacious. 

The bedroom has a separate large (6.8 sq. m.) dressing room. For hobbies (sewing, drawing) and storing all the necessary accessories, there is a table by the window, a bedside table with drawers under the table and a storage system nearby. The tabletop moves away so that you can access the window. 

In the bathroom there is a spacious cabinet under the sink with a pencil case and a closet where the washing machine is hidden. 

Lighting

Lighting is minimalistic, but functional. The main lighting scenario in different zones is built-in spotlights. Additionally, ceiling tracks (in the hallway), suspensions (above the island, at the mirror in the hallway and next to the bed in the bedroom), sconces (on the balcony, in the bedroom, at the bathroom mirror) are thought out.

The style was immediately defined — it’s minimalism. The customer loves him for the purity of forms, a modern reflection of today’s life. For my part, I wanted to make the space not only verified by the ruler, which implies this style, but softer, more cozy, more homely. All cabinet furniture has architecture and clean lines, this is also emphasized by the color. Softness was added by a warm pleasant shade of veneer, restrained soft lines of the sofa, a warm shade of white walls, carpet, and, of course, thick curtains on the windows. The headboard of the bed in the bedroom repeats the texture of the textiles of our sofa. A pleasant shade of green, veneered elements add comfort to the space.
