The designer created a spectacular interior using natural colors and natural materials, as well as combining different types of finishes that flow from room to room.

Customers and tasks 

The owners of this apartment are a family with a school-age son and an adult daughter. The latter already lives separately with her spouse, but often comes to visit her parents. Also, their grandmother sometimes stays with them. It was important to allocate a spacious common area for all family members to gather, to provide separate bedrooms for the owners and the son, a place for the head of the family to work and a guest room where the daughter and spouse or grandmother could stay for the time of arrival. The family turned to designer Tatiana Alipova in order to equip their apartment as needed. 

The hostess is fond of feng shui, breeds fish and, in principle, has a liking for them, and also collects elephant figurines. Therefore, it was important for her to embody her hobbies in the interior. In addition, there were suggestions for functionality: we needed spacious storage systems, a utility room with laundry functions and necessarily on TV in every room, in the kitchen we wanted to make a bar for snacks. 

Layout

Initially, it was a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom, which were combined during the construction of the house. Thus, the apartment turned out to have two risers and as many as 7 windows on an area of almost 90 squares. The initial data was perfectly suited to meet the needs of the owners in the number and purpose of rooms. So, we organized a spacious kitchen-living room. One of the bathrooms was divided into a small guest toilet and a utility room. They allocated the master bedroom with a dressing room, a guest room and a children’s room.

The entrance to the second bathroom was moved, making it from the corridor next to the parents’ bedroom. Where there was an entrance according to the developer’s plan, a built-in storage system with an aquarium and air conditioning was installed. It turned out well, since the drain of the aquarium and the air conditioner was organized into a bathroom riser.

Finishing

The choice of finishes and color solutions was based on the idea of combining the three natural elements of earth, water and air. In part, this corresponds to the philosophy of feng shui, which is close to the owner of the apartment. Therefore, materials and shades were chosen mainly natural.

There’s paint on the walls. There is an oak-colored engineering board on the floor in residential areas. On the floor in the hallway, bathrooms, kitchen granite marble with brass inserts. The last ones wanted to support other brass interior details in furniture and decor. Wallpaper was also used. They decorate the wall at the head of the bed in the master bedroom, the walls of the guest bathroom and a section of the wall above the bed in the nursery. In the bathroom, porcelain stoneware was used under a brown stone, combining it again with brass details. “It turned out to be a cozy natural “grotto” with a large full-length mirror that reflects and expands the space,” says the author of the project.

As for the color, it was used by zones. So, the spacious common living room-kitchen turned blue. This color continued in the guest room and partly in the nursery. In his son’s room, he was supported by a warm orange shade, which looks great in natural light (this is one of the sunniest rooms in the apartment). The customers’ bedroom and hallway were decorated in light colors, gray, but with bright accents. In the bedroom, the wallpaper with a natural pattern in green colors became such an accent, and in the hallway a banquette and a back to match it in burgundy color. The guest bathroom, in addition to the tiles on the walls, was decorated with wallpaper with a fish pattern. 

Also in the decoration, I would like to note the solution with a partition between the kitchen and the living room, which was designed specifically for the TV installation. The patterned parts of the partition echo the wallpaper pattern in the nursery and the panel that covers the indoor unit of the air conditioner built into the system above the aquarium. 

Such a combination of colors and finishes in different rooms creates the impression of a harmonious and thoughtful interior. 

Storage systems

Following the request of the owners, the designer thought through a lot of storage systems. This is a built-in wardrobe in the hallway for everyday outerwear, and a place to store household items in the laundry room, and a dressing room in the bedroom, there is also a high built-in wardrobe with a compartment for a built-in TV.

In the study, shelves are built around a sofa. Closed shelves above the workplace are also made. In the son’s room, a closet was thought out next to the bed for things, as well as open shelves at the desktop (by the way, it was lined up along the window, made large so that even two people could sit down) and at the door.

In the dining area there is a buffet for storing ceremonial dishes, but the most interesting is the storage system with an aquarium and air conditioning. There they thought out a place to put all the things for the maintenance of the aquarium. And we have provided a removable panel that will be able to close the aquarium itself in case there are no fish there. “Together with the customer, we came up with the idea that a stained glass window can be made in this place, the illumination from the aquarium will illuminate it from the inside. The customer asked me the theme for the stained glass: mountains, waterfall, trees, and I have already prepared a sketch together with the stained glass workshop, picked up multicolored glasses in accordance with the color scheme of the interior, and the workshop made a stained glass in the Tiffany technique,” says the designer.

In the bathroom, storage has been thought out with the help of a cabinet under the sink and a cabinet over the toilet, where the water heater was also hidden. In a small bathroom, a siphon is hidden under the bedside table, and the rest of the places were left for storing toilet paper supplies. 

Lighting

The lighting is divided into general lighting scenarios and additional ones. For example, in the living room, a bright general light was realized with the help of linear ceiling lamps, and the aquarium lighting was additionally thought out, there are decorative hanging lamps above the dining table.

Overhead spots are installed on the ceiling in the kitchen area. In the study, the light is solved by a ceiling chandelier, in addition to it, a sconce above the sofa and above the desk. In the bedroom, in addition to the ceiling light, the bed lighting was implemented, which makes the wallpaper decor even more spectacular. Of course, there were also table lamps.

In the nursery, spot ceiling lights are complemented by suspensions over the workplace, a table lamp and a sconce over the bed. In the guest bathroom, the general light is solved by a suspended ceiling lamp, in the hallway with built-in dots, and in the bathroom, in addition to the ceiling light, hanging drop lamps at the mirror are thought out.

The main idea of the interior: to connect the elements of earth, water and air. The customer is close to the theme of feng shui, she breeds goldfish and collects elephant figures. This gave a direction in the choice of colors, finishing elements and interior items. All the colors in the interior of this apartment echo each other and flow from room to room, thus creating one harmonious space.
