The main wish was to create a beautiful classic interior that corresponds to the status of customers: the husband is a professor with an international name. An equally important task is to fit antique items purchased by the owners and inherited into the interior. Photo Julia Yakubishina Customers, having bought the apartment of their dreams, could not cope with the layout of a rather complex space on their own. When the builders demolished the partitions, it became clear that they could not do without the help of professionals: the wooden floors needed strengthening, water was constantly leaking in the bathroom, the batteries practically did not heat the room, the windows were cracked. Photo Julia Yakubishina The designer recreated the classic enfilade layout system inherent in pre-revolutionary apartments. The apartment has high four-meter ceilings. The doors are original — they have undergone a thorough restoration. “During the dismantling, a pleasant surprise awaited us: an original plaster molding of incredible beauty was hidden behind the plasterboard ceiling. We have restored the stucco in the style of ornamental Art Nouveau (Kiev Art Nouveau), it decorated the living room and the kitchen-dining room. The windows were in a deplorable condition, we replaced them completely, repeating the original drawing. Also, behind the partition, we found another double door walled up, which was used in the interior. We made the missing doors to order,” the designer said. Canteen. Chairs, Novas. Photo Julia Yakubishina All the items in this apartment are unusual: antique furniture, paintings, antique porcelain and crystal. “Outstanding people of the city lived in this apartment, after a while a family of Kievans with noble roots and a famous surname moved into it. It is very painful to see renovated apartments in historical houses, the main decorative technique of which is the walls cleaned of plaster. For me, it’s like showing a noble lady’s underwear. I believe that I managed to create the atmosphere of a professor’s apartment, an apartment in which more than one generation of the Kiev intelligentsia lives, in which they honor traditions, but are open to everything new.” Office.
