The interior is interesting because of how figuratively, diligently and carefully minimalism is implemented in a modern new building in relation to the budget of customers. It does not matter that the gold in the details is not real, the avocado stone on the wall is not made of silver, but a sofa of domestic production, without a premium gloss. Shapes and colors are selected and arranged expertly, with deep knowledge of the matter.

An apartment in a new building in Moscow, in the residential complex “On Basovskaya” in the Western Degunino district, was purchased by a girl, a marketer by profession. She invited a designer to optimize the layout and create a modern, stylish environment, as she likes to sit at home with friends for pleasant conversations and board games. 

Redevelopment

Initially, the customer did not like a very small kitchen and a huge corridor with six doors, in fact, a lost space. She wanted to combine the kitchen with the living room, allocate space for a dressing room and a utility room, but at the same time keep the guest bathroom. 

The designer, leaving the wet zones in their places, used the area as much as possible, placing all the necessary functionality. On the private half there is a bedroom, a dressing room and a bathroom, on the common kitchen-living room, a utility room, a guest bathroom, an entrance hall with a dressing room.

Repair

The apartment was rented with partial renovation, with screed and floor tiles in wet areas. All the extra partitions and tiles were dismantled. The attached loggia (the designer allowed this possibility) was insulated, the glazing was changed, equipped with an electric underfloor heating. The new partitions were made of groove-ridge plates with a protruding and sinking part (groove and ridge) for reliable fixation. The partitions were rigidly fixed between the floors. All the walls in the apartment are painted, and the smooth surface of the PPP allowed saving on leveling. 

The ceiling was sheathed with GCL, lowered by 100 mm to hide the ventilation box, to embed plaster lamps, to make LED lighting. Radiators and window sills from the developer were changed to more aesthetic models. 

To optically raise the ceiling, the interior doors were made very high, 2,300 mm, choosing models with a hidden box for painting.

Design

Minimalism gives the kitchen a grandeur. To realize her plans, the designer turned to pronounced geometric forms: furniture with blind facades without handles, a built-in refrigerator that merges with the wall. Facades of hinged kitchen cabinets are decorated with a thin, only 6 mm, sienna-colored porcelain stoneware. The finishing was made to order at the furniture production. The color of the glass for the apron was matched to the color of the acrylic countertop, it should be noted, it turned out not without difficulty. Painting tempered glass in a hot way changes the shade selected from the RAL catalog, and it didn’t work out to get into the right tone on the first attempt.

The minimalism chosen by the customer in the living room and bedroom has acquired slightly more comfortable features for life, but in general, clear lines, simple geometric shapes, neutral colors, texture, complemented by contrasts and color accents, fully correspond to laconic aesthetics. Color spots are scattered throughout the apartment: there are emerald bar stools, an ochre sofa, a deep blue guest bathroom. All this dilutes the monochrome and makes the interior not boring.

Harmony, softness and tranquility in the bedroom were achieved using natural shades and suitable textures. Associatively, the bed upholstery and curtains saturate the space with the aromas of forests and lakes. The wall behind the bed is finished with sand plaster with a mother-of-pearl sheen.

By the way, about the guest bathroom. It has an extravagant design. In addition to the unusual sink with a base, attention is attracted by the geometry of gypsum panels reflected in the mirror. You can get here through the utility room.

Lighting

In general, we have developed several lighting scenarios, including evening atmospheric illumination of the ceiling and walls. There was supposed to be another central light in the bedroom. The designer worked out the sketch and sent the order to the workshop. But the results of the work did not reach the required level. Then the color is not the same, then scratches, then other defects. After five attempts, the idea was abandoned, and a suitable suspension from the finished product was selected to replace it. Its golden color, like that of other decorative lamps in the apartment, favorably shades the yellow radiation of lamps. Such light (with a thermal temperature of 3,000 K) gives the interior comfort, disposes to rest.

Technical light gypsum lamps for putty and spots are equipped with white daylight lamps (with a thermal temperature of 4,000 K). It is optimally suited for cooking and cleaning.

The apartment has a sophisticated light control system, a lot of pass-through and cross switches, as well as a master switch at the entrance door, which allows you to turn off all lighting devices and fire-hazardous household appliances at the exit.

Furniture and storage systems

In the private block there is a dressing room where linen, clothes, shoes are stored. The door to the room is compact, folding, so as not to take up space in the open position. A high illuminated mirror is positioned in such a way that you can evaluate your image immediately after leaving the dressing room. 

In the bathroom, on one wall with a shower cabin, there is a spacious utility closet. The volume above the toilet installation is also used for storage. A narrow cabinet goes all the way to the ceiling, and next to it in the same plane, but above the sink there is a mirrored cosmetics cabinet.

A wardrobe has also been provided in the hallway, it is designed for seasonal outerwear, shoes and suitcases. The pouf in the entrance area also has a storage compartment.

For the customer, in addition to practicality, conciseness and quality, a big role was played by the cost, the whole situation of domestic production.

Working on the project and its implementation, as well as communicating with the customer, have become a real pleasure for me! We still maintain a very warm relationship with the hostess. I managed to feel the person and create an interior that reflects his character. I like to give my clients small housewarming presents. In this case, the gift was a seascape. His palette echoes the brown kitchen facades of the kitchen. The customer’s cat is called Stefania, or simply Stepashka. She appeared after the renovation and housewarming. The hostess jokes that she bought it “for the interior”, so harmoniously the pet fit into the implemented project. In my opinion, the advantages of this apartment are in the successful redevelopment, functionality, and thoughtfulness of every corner. We managed to use the space to the maximum. Technicality and convenience make the customer’s life easier, and therefore better.
