Design hotel in the building of a former sugar factory Design 15.04.2022 In Poland, a designer hotel was opened in the building of a former sugar factory, for the interior of which two studios were responsible — MML Architekci and MIXD Photo THEY ARE STUDIO The small Polish town of Zhnin is known primarily for its industrial history. In 1894, a large sugar beet sugar factory was built here, which has been the backbone enterprise of the city for more than a hundred years. In 2004, the factory shut down and gradually fell into disrepair. Recently, the factory complex has a new owner who decided to give industrial buildings a new life and invited the Warsaw architectural bureau Bulak Project to turn them into a design hotel complex “Zhninskaya Sugar Manufactory”. They even managed to use the building of the former stable: there is now a bowling club. Two studios, MML Architekci and MIXD, were responsible for the interiors of the “Zhninskaya Sugar Manufactory”, which also tried to preserve the historical heritage. As a result, a lot of industrial parts remained inside: metal beams, supports, open communications and even old, non-working machines turned into art objects by designers.
