Designer Evgenia Maraskova-Grigoryants talks about the dream apartment she created for herself and her family

At the start of the project, my husband and I had just got married and were doing repairs together for the first time. The interior was assembled gradually. But I really wanted the apartment to look solid and cozy at every stage, so the decor most often appeared before oversized furniture.

I also wanted to realize the maximum number of my long-standing desires. For example, I liked the classic black-and-white floor in the pictures since I was a child. The yellow bathroom was also an old dream. By the way, it began with the purchase of a mirror. I would not recommend doing this to my customers — ideally, you should first understand what kind of mood you want to create. But there are exceptions to the rules.

A black kitchen without an apron has become a kind of little rebellion. We don’t usually cook complicated dishes. We have only one frying pan and two pots, so we didn’t need cabinets up to the ceiling. Instead, we hung open shelves. This turned out to be a very convenient solution — so the dishes are always at hand, and you don’t have to touch the black facades once again, on which all the prints are visible.

In every project, and my own apartment is no exception, I try to make the spaces complement each other. For example, thanks to the same tile on the floor, the hallway flows smoothly into the kitchen. The walls in all rooms, except the corridor and bathrooms, are painted in the same color, which also creates a sense of integrity. In addition, it simplifies the task when you want to make a permutation. I like to swap objects. For example, when choosing a coffee table or chair, I always mentally try them on in other rooms.
