Brief description of sansevieria

This unusual plant, which does not have a stem, belongs to the asparagus family. It comes from tropical places. Despite the fact that there are many varieties, only about a dozen of them are “tamed” and grown at home. As we have already noted, the flower is extremely unpretentious, but at the same time it looks unusual and stylish, which is why many flower growers are so fond of it. The root system is creeping, the leaves grow directly from the roots and can reach 1.5 meters in length. Similar to long dense plates, they come in uniform or variegated colors, which are limited to green and brownish shades. Because of this appearance, the species is often called “mother-in-law’s tongue”, “pike tail”, “snake skin” and indeed, there is a similarity.

The most popular varieties

Consider the most famous types of sansevieria with names and photos of them you can easily find in the store and start growing at home.

Laurenti. It is also called three-lane. One of the highest varieties, which has flat straight-growing leaves with a pointed tip, bright striped coloring. The more sunlight Laurenti receives, the more pronounced the stripes. Blooms extremely rarely.

Cylindrical. This variety can be considered exotic, it looks unusual. The leaves are completely different, not flat, but similar to tubes, have a resemblance to onions. Some growers manage to braid the cylinder into braids, if the length and flexibility of the leaves allows. Perfectly tolerates darkened corners.

Robusta. An undersized species of sansevieria. Because of the small growth, the leaves seem especially strong and fleshy, they are collected in a dense rosette at the roots. There is no yellow edging on the edge, but the variegated stripes on the leaves themselves are the same as in other varieties.

Hyacinth. A variety that is characterized by a more active flowering, and the peduncle resembles a hyacinth in appearance. It will not be too high: a maximum of 100 centimeters. The flowering period is atypically in winter.

Grandis. Or in other words, big. It differs by wider leaves, the color is monotonous, almost without inclusions. The case when the flower can reach 1.5 meters in length.

Pickaxe. The foliage of this variety is very different from its original counterparts, uneven along the edge, resembling ruffles. It has pink or brown edging along the edge. The peduncle is also unusual, a little fluffy, exudes a light pleasant aroma.

Silver. The rarest of the presented species is considered collectible. Its leaves are the same long, in the form of swords, but the colors are muted, silvery-green, which is why the flower got its name.
