The kitchen is considered one of the most expensive rooms in the overall estimate for the arrangement. We asked the designers which items could be cut. In many ways, the opinions of the pros have converged, which only proves the advice of the “workers”. You can use them. 

1 Make a straight kitchen 

There are several traditional types of kitchen layout: straight (or linear), angular, U-shaped, island. 

Mila Gench and Natalia Shimanova recommend making a straight kitchen. 

“The simpler the design of the kitchen, the cheaper it is. Therefore, a kitchen with a straight layout is more profitable than a corner one,” says Natalia. 

“It will be cheaper to make a straight kitchen than a corner one,” Mila also holds the same opinion. 

2 Choose modular kitchens of standard sizes

Any non-standard solutions are more expensive than standard ones. You can even embed a modular kitchen, if you make a niche for the specified dimensions in advance.

Many manufacturers have a standard kitchen size grid. Most often it is a multiple of 15, for example, the kitchen lower base of standard dimensions is 60×60 cm or 45×60 cm, or 30×60 cm, or 15×60 cm. When designing, it is easy to take into account standard dimensions and save the budget. For example, a niche kitchen can be designed based on standard dimensions, and taking into account the size of standard furniture, a niche can be built in a construction design. Such a solution will be more budget-friendly than making a niche in non-standard sizes, and then try to integrate the kitchen into it.

3 Choose standard height hinged cabinets

The upper cabinets to the ceiling are an actual technique, besides practical. After all, the storage space expands and dust does not accumulate in the gap between the top of the headset and the ceiling. But such systems are more expensive. Designers advise you to save money. After all, you can always lower the ceiling in the part where the kitchen is installed.

“Try to use standard heights of hinged cabinets (700-720 mm), modules are 900-1,000 mm more expensive,” Natalia Shimanskaya clarifies.

4 Combine open shelves with upper cabinets or choose only open shelves

“Try to give up some of the hanging cabinets and “mix” a kitchen set with open shelves, this will significantly save your budget,” Natalia Shimanskaya believes.

“Pull-out and swing sections of kitchen furniture always increase the budget due to accessories (hinges, pull-out systems, handles, etc.). As well as due to the body and face materials of cabinet furniture. An open and organized storage system of shelves, hooks, containers, stylized baskets is cheaper. Competent systematization of storage will add order to the kitchen, and all the materials at hand will be in visual access,” says Anna Dobrokovskaya.
