How to squeeze the maximum out of a two-bedroom apartment: a functional example of an apartment in Reutov Design 01.07.2022 In this apartment, they made a kitchen-living room instead of just a kitchen, and in the bedroom they decorated an office for two. Thus, many functional zones were able to fit in the two-piece! Customers and tasks The owners of this apartment are a married couple with a son of primary school age. They turned to designer Elena Bunak with several tasks. “It was necessary to organize a common kitchen-living room area, a bedroom combined with an office for two workplaces, a children’s room, a dedicated dirty area, as well as a bathroom and a bathroom with full functionality, including a column with a washing machine and dryer,” says the designer. The owners had furniture that they wanted to fit into the new interior. And there was also an unusual wish not to use white furniture in the project. “We don’t like white furniture. She’s inanimate. And we don’t need such a thing,” Elena recalls the words of customers. Perhaps this is the first time I have encountered such a wish.” Redevelopment According to the original plan, the apartment had two rooms, an elongated kitchen, a small bathroom, a spacious hall-hallway and a balcony. The layout was slightly changed. So, we divided the bathroom into a bathroom and a toilet and increased these zones at the expense of the hall. One of the rooms (it was taken for a nursery), on the contrary, was reduced to make an additional storage system for household purposes in the hall. Finishing The floor in all areas, including the hallway, kitchen and bathrooms were decorated with quartz vinyl. “It’s practical, fast, eco-friendly and quite budget-friendly,” the designer comments. The walls in the kitchen were painted, wooden slats were used in the area of the sofa and dining table. In the first case, it is rather a decorative technique, it eliminates a small difference in depth between the load-bearing wall in the headset area and the foam block wall in the sofa area. In the second case, it is also a practical solution. The slats will “prevent” contamination of the wall next to the dining table. Paint was also used in the bedroom, but the emphasis was made in the form of wallpaper on the wall behind the headboard. Opposite the bed is also an accent detail, the layout is moldings. It adds dynamics. In the nursery, the paint was combined with wallpaper. “A large-format robot sticker printed in a specialized printing house also appeared near the head of the bed. The manufacturer promises that if the sticker gets bored, it can be removed without traces,” the designer adds. There is washable wallpaper on the walls in the hallway. And several types of tiles were combined in the bathroom and bathroom. “In the bathroom, the tiles were selected in order to place a large invisible hatch for access to the collector cabinet without undercuts. In the bathroom, customers were not afraid of the dark color in a small room, but on the contrary, they gladly supported this idea,” Elena shares. Furniture and storage systems The storage systems were thought out in accordance with the needs of the family. In the hallway there is a spacious closet under the ceiling in the color of the walls. The section with the seat is slightly darker, but this is intentional. The kitchen set is angular, but with one row of upper cabinets. It is interesting to decide the countertop in the stove area. “We have extended the high side, it is practical and harmoniously completes the composition with a stove and hood,” explains Elena. For small things in the TV zone, hanging cabinets were thought out. In the bedroom there is a high wardrobe for everyday things, hanging bedside tables next to the bed and also hanging modules in front of it. A low bookcase was installed in the study. The bedroom was interestingly zoned from the study with slats. They are sliding. In the open state, the slats let light into the bed area, and when assembled, they allow you to isolate the study from the bedroom. The children’s room has furniture that the owners brought from the previous apartment: several cabinets, a work desk. The crib was also in the family, it is extendable. “This decision has greatly saved the budget. When the son grows up, he will be able to decide for himself what the furniture in his room should look like. We have provided spare sockets behind the cabinets in case of a cardinal rearrangement,” says Elena. Due to the reduction of the nursery in the corridor, a utility closet was organized. And the main storage in the bathroom is represented by a wardrobe with louvered doors, where a washing machine and dryer are built in, a hanging pencil case, a bedside table under the sink and a mirrored cabinet above the washbasin. Lighting “Each room provides for the management of lighting scenarios for their two points. The main lamps are built-in double rectangular spots in the color of the ceiling, each group illuminates a specific functional area. In addition to the dots, an LED backlight is installed in the built-in boxes, which is controlled from a remote control and changes color. In the nursery, the functional areas can be changed at any time, so in the center of the room we simply placed a rectangular track on which you can place the turning spots in the right amount and direction. In the bedroom and the nursery there is also a soft evening illumination hidden in the niches for curtains. And in the corridor, small lamps are located close to the floor, which can be left for the night,” says Elena. Designer Elena Bunak, author of the project: Since in the palette of the project we were based on rather specific preferences of customers, my task was to tame the selected shades and make friends with this riot of colors with laconic forms. Therefore, basically this project is a mixture of modern minimalist style and Scandinavian. And in some places, japandi even looks through.
