A new page in the history of Limoges porcelain was the collaboration of local craftsmen with contemporary artists and designers, including Parisian Marie Daage. The dishes and serving items that she creates are distinguished by a peculiar manner of painting products. “I apply paint on porcelain with broad strokes,” says the artist. — The technique is vaguely reminiscent of watercolor.”

Now there are 59 shades in the Marie Daâge brand palette. “All the colors are borrowed from nature,— says Marie. — I have been practicing to distinguish the nuances of colors since childhood. My parents and I lived for a long time on the Caribbean island of Martinique — my father studied soils. Looking at the ocean for a long time, I suddenly realized that it was multicolored! In the interiors of my house, you can see both the rich blue — the shade of the sea, and the color that we call “eau de nile” (French. “The Waters of the Nile”)”.

The estate of the XVIII century was a hunting lodge, but in the XIX century it was significantly expanded. Today there are only twenty bedrooms in the house. “We recently renovated the bathrooms and the kitchen,” says Marie. — Now the roof and facade are next in line. Life in the castle is connected with the ongoing work on the restoration of interiors.”

There are a lot of antiques from the time of Louis XVI, the Regency era, the staircase to the second floor is recreated in the style of the Directory. Floral motifs predominate in textile patterns, many fabrics — with the image of tropical birds. This is one of Marie’s favorite stories. “As a child, I could spend hours looking at birds (fortunately there were a lot of them on the island!) and memorize their fancy names,— says Marie. “These are very fond memories for me.”

Daage designed the living room on the top floor, inspired by the interior of the living room of the Château de Malmaison — Napoleon’s residence. “By the way, Josephine de Beauharnais was also from Martinique! — notes Daage. — I started from the image of a military tent of those times: the walls and ceiling are covered with fabric, oriental carpets on the floor, instead of a coffee table — a traveling chest.”

Marie’s love for colonial furniture and decorative fabrics was instilled by her mother. She often took her daughter with her when she went to the designer shops on rue du Mail and place de Furstenberg. “I remember wrapping myself in the fabric entirely while my mother was enthusiastically communicating with the sellers. It was so much fun,” says Daage.

The ability to have fun, according to the hostess, is one of the main conditions for a happy life in a big house. “Why so many rooms if they are empty? — she reasons. — When my husband and I realize that music has not been played in the halls for a long time and children have not laughed, we send messages to our family group on WhatsApp: “We meet at the weekend.” It usually works!” www.mariedaage.com
