Photo Ekaterina Titenko “Our special passion is working with apartments in the old foundation: it always has its own unique history, but renovation in such “old” apartments is an expected challenge,” the architects say. — The original layout was expected to leave much to be desired. It was an old communal apartment, part of which had not been renovated since the mid-twentieth century. But the apartment had a bonus in the form of windows on three sides, a back staircase and conveniently located utility networks. First of all, we studied archival documents, and opened the old window openings in the wall, getting an additional orientation to the southwest and a gorgeous view of the historical center of St. Petersburg. The apartment has become very bright, which is important for such a spacious space.” The kitchen is made to order in Irina Malysheva’s furniture studio “Continent”. Hanging lamps, Lampatron. Customers trusted us in many ways when choosing certain solutions, while they themselves have excellent taste.” The table and chairs are the property of the customer. It was very important to create the effect of an open space, despite the fact that there are many living rooms in the apartment. The main axis of the apartment is visible from the study, where there is a glass partition with huge swing doors, to the opposite edge of the living room, where there is always a lot of light and a gorgeous view from the French balcony.” The bed is the property of the customer. Here, a large French balcony with a view of the city and a modern wood-burning fireplace attracts attention. The furniture in the living room area was specially selected very restrained. We made the kitchen to order from German components. And the dining table and chairs in the kitchen were brought by customers from Sweden 15 years ago. And this is a real Swedish IKEA. There was no such collection and quality in Russia at that time. Our furniture makers were constantly interested in what kind of furniture brand it was and were surprised when they heard the answer.” A fragment of the balcony. In the shower room, which is also a guest bathroom, we used painting instead of formal tiles. The main thing is to choose a paint specifically for wet rooms.” Guest bathroom. Cabinet, Teak House. During the two years of apartment construction, we managed to become close friends with the owners and sometimes drop in for a cup of coffee. We are glad that we have created a unique space in this apartment with its conciseness and simplicity, without piling up details, architectural elements and furniture, without design for design’s sake. A real “Scandinavian classic”!” Apartment of 230 m2 in St. Petersburg. The project of architects Evgenia Chucharina and Alexander Rodin. Original content from the site
