The legendary Le Sirenuse Hotel, located in Amalfi, a small town in southern Italy, used to be an 18th-century summer villa. In 1951, its owners, the Sersale family, decided to convert the house into a boutique hotel. For 70 years, a small family hotel has turned into a luxury resort with 58 rooms, while maintaining a homely atmosphere.

Le Sirenuse is still a family business, owned by Antonio, the son of Franco Cersale, and his wife Carla. Franco was a keen collector. The interiors of the hotel are decorated with furniture and works of art of the XVII and XVIII centuries, perfectly complementing the original architectural elements, such as vaulted ceilings and stucco panels. Antonio and Carla continued the tradition and together with the British art curator Silka Rittson-Thomas launched the Artists at Le Sirenuse program, thanks to which the collection is annually replenished with works by contemporary artists. The latest work in the collection, a neon sign with the inscription Don’t Worry, created by Martin Creed, greets guests at the entrance to the eponymous bar, opened in honor of the 70th anniversary of the hotel.

The new bar, designed by architect and designer Annalisa Bellettati, is decorated in the speakeasy style. The main highlight of the interior was a wooden bar counter of the beginning of the XVIII century, covered with polished brass and complemented by an oak cabinet of the same period. There is also a La Sponda restaurant at guests’ disposal. There is always a romantic atmosphere in the Bougainvillea-wrapped hall with panoramic windows overlooking Positano.

Despite the fact that there is technically no garden in Le Sirenuse, the hotel is literally surrounded by greenery. Landscape designer Isabella Casali di Monticelli decorated interiors, terraces and balconies with tubs of roses, orchids and cacti, as well as pots with lemon trees.
