Inside this Victorian mansion, it’s easy to forget that you’re in a dynamic area of London

“It is not necessary to buy a country house to feel like living in the countryside,” the owners of this townhouse in London decided. They looked after a house with an area of 186 square meters in the Victorian style in the London district of Notting Hill and turned it into a cozy family haven in a traditional style. If it weren’t for the view from the window of the busy London streets, you might think that you are in the English countryside.

The original fireplace with raw concrete edges is framed on both sides by open shelves. There are memorabilia of the owners of the house.

A rustic atmosphere cannot arise without the materials that are usually used for the construction of village houses. In a London townhouse, she is helped to recreate open wooden floors, rough stone, untreated wood, chalky lime plaster, aged furniture. “I chose materials that are pleasant to the touch, and also so that they age beautifully,” says the hostess of the house. — I wanted to achieve the feeling that the house was not just renovated, but always looked exactly like this.”

In addition to two living rooms in the house there is another room for relaxation.

The house has four floors. On the ground floor there is a kitchen with a marble countertop and unusual faceted facades, a dining room with a large “rustic” table and a small sitting area with a perfectly preserved fireplace of the XIX century. On the ground floor there is a main living room with authentic Georgian columns and pale pink plaster on the walls.

The bedrooms occupy the upper floors and are decorated in the same rustic style as the rest of the house: simple furniture, rough surfaces, natural wood and colorful textiles. The guest bedroom is located in an alcove, like in old rural houses, and is completely covered with old wooden barn boards.
