“I want to admire the city always: getting out of bed, relaxing in the living room, at breakfast, while working and playing sports,” the customer began, and we immediately realized that the views would be the main theme of the interior, — says architect Lia Babayants, Babayants Architects bureau. — The apartment is located on the high floor of a skyscraper, and fascinating panoramas of Moscow open from each room. The architecture of the house is interesting because the windows are located at an angle to the floor. This tilt gives an unusual feeling of space. Our task was to “dissolve” the interior so that the objects did not attract attention and did not distract from the most important thing — an exciting urban landscape.”

“The customer consulted with us when choosing an apartment. When we arrived for a pre-purchase inspection, it was difficult to assess the merits of the apartment and even its area: the entire space was divided by partitions into small rooms. Only when we demolished everything and removed the excess — revealed all its beauty and potential. All paths of movement around the apartment are formed around the utility block located at the load-bearing pylon. To the left of it is the entrance to the common area, and to the right is an opening leading to the nursery. Opposite the utility block with a mirrored door, there is a cube of frosted glass, behind which the master bathroom is hidden. Thus, the light enters the hallway from different sides, which helped to get rid of the feeling of a solid corridor.”

“A coffee table with a glass top in the living room reflects the rhythm of the windows, the city panorama and the sky, blurring the boundary between internal and external space. In the study, the decorative colored glass behind the sofa is used as an art object and a color accent. It reflects one of the seven legendary Moscow skyscrapers and inclined window posts, which gives the whole composition dynamics. The master bedroom offers a magnificent view of the bend of the river, which is echoed by the rounded shapes of the cast glass armchair.”

“As architects, we primarily work with volumes. We study the interaction of light, volume and lines and build our projects based on this. We often hang furniture in the air and use consoles. For example, in this apartment you can see a “floating” wardrobe and a beautiful console desktop in the study; a separate cube in the master bedroom, inside which there is a dressing room, and a dynamic removal of the bathtub above the podium in the master bathroom.”

“The most unusual item in the interior, perhaps, is the kitchen. It turned out to be truly minimalist. All work processes and technical component of the kitchen are hidden behind sliding facades. The composition of the island made of marble with a table integrated into it is our author’s design, which was made individually to order. We are so meticulous in the matter of lines that the location of the kitchen set, facades, table, island and pendant lamp is verified to millimeters. It’s not easy to implement, but perfect lines are a special kind of aesthetics for us.”
