Oksana Mailyan and Natalia Nelidova, designers of the ON Studio bureau, created this project for a young couple with two young children. The apartment went to the customers with a white box finish and had a standard layout that did not meet their requirements. “Our task was to create a spacious area combining the kitchen, dining room and living room — for this we had to demolish the existing wall and insulate the balcony,” the authors of the project say.

“The hostess loves to cook very much, that’s why it was decided to combine the kitchen and the living room so as not to take away the opportunity to communicate with the family for household chores. The only stylistic wish was a calm beige-brown palette.”

The coloristic basis of the apartment is based on an earthy palette — shades of ochre, umber, green and gray. The fabric of the sofa changes color depending on the time of day — in daylight it looks gray-green, in evening light it takes on a deep brown-olive shade.”

The panels, part of the kitchen set, doors, portals and the framing of the niche in the bedroom are made of oak. Granite from the hall flows into the kitchen area and “rises” on the wall. The natural theme is continued by shelves in the living room, on which climbing plants are placed. “The fireplace also came in handy,” the designers add, “it seemed to us that with the glow of the flame it would be nice to listen to music here after a hard day’s work.”

“The lack of storage areas is one of the main difficulties we face in designing. This was especially felt in the bedroom. To solve the problem, we organized a walk-through dressing room, reducing the immediate sleeping area. And thanks to the combination of the balcony with the bedroom, it was possible to create a small and cozy boudoir.”

“The bedroom turned out to be the most saturated in color. We have been looking for suspensions for a long time that would not be lost against the background of dark brown curtains. As a result, the choice fell on massive lamps from Handle Studio.”

“The children’s block turned out to be very successful — two rooms with a common corridor and a large bathroom, where we created a bedroom and a playroom for the younger family members. This area turned out to be brighter and brighter compared to the rest of the apartment, we changed the color of the parquet in it and added shades from gray-blue to heavenly to the interior.”

“The engineering support of the project, especially the installation of an air conditioning system, has become quite a difficult task for us. We had to sacrifice part of the balcony at the bedroom, organizing an unheated and ventilated place to install the unit, but as a result there was also an additional area for storing rarely used things. So all the wishes of the customers were taken into account, and we managed to create a comfortable and convenient space for everyone.”
