Perfect before and after: how a cozy and stylish interior was made from an apartment in a panel renovated in the 90s Design 20.06.2022 Designer Milena Yanichkina transformed a morally outdated space for a young girl. Customers and tasks The owner of this apartment in a panel house of the IP46M model series in Moscow is a young woman, she is passionate about work, often on business trips. She loves housing in a quiet residential area very much, and this feeling was transmitted to the author of the project, designer Milena Yanichkina. “The first time I visited this apartment on the measurement and met the customer, I was immediately 100% sure that we would succeed. There was some special connection. She was so in love with this place, this apartment, that her feelings were immediately transmitted to me. I don’t know how to explain it, but a special warmth emanated from this object,” Milena shares. The main wish of the hostess was to design a cozy and comfortable interior for both life and work (the latter is an echo of the pandemic, which has already made it almost mandatory to have a workplace at home); to think over the storage of the girl’s large collection of dishes. Layout According to the original plan, the apartment had two rooms, a kitchen with a loggia adjacent to it, a separate bathroom and a bathroom, a small storage room in the hallway. There are enough rooms for one hostess, besides the restrictions imposed by the type of house: the panels have load-bearing walls. Therefore, they decided not to redevelop. The only change that was made concerned the doorway from the hallway to the living room. This wall, fortunately, was not load-bearing, which made it easy to expand the opening and install a high sliding glass partition instead of the swing double doors that were there initially. According to the author of the project, in this way they achieved better natural lighting of the hallway, which literally turned a small utilitarian space into a bright and cozy front hall. In the far room, accordingly, a bedroom was organized. And a workplace was made on the loggia at the kitchen. To do this, we have thought out a sofa-bench and a folding table. That is, if desired, the space can be used not only for work, but also as a place of rest. Finishing They chose paint for the walls and supplemented them with moldings, they created the right rhythm and added a classic mood. In the living rooms of the bedroom, living room, an engineering board was laid on the floor. In the hall, corridor, kitchen and loggia large-format granite marble, it is more practical. An interesting technique was used to visually increase the height of the ceiling. After the necessary descent for laying communications, the height became 2.5 meters. The designer decided to make ceiling cornices in the color of the walls, this increased the small height. Furniture and storage systems To think over the storage space was an important task from the customer, which the designer fully solved. So, in the hallway there is a wardrobe for outerwear with an integrated pouf. There’s a drawer under the seat. In a small storeroom, shelves for bags and shoes were also made here. In the living room opposite the sofa, showcases have been installed, which will become an “exhibition space” for the girl’s collection of dishes, and in closed cabinets and a TV stand you can store various little things. The kitchen has a spacious kitchen set with the necessary appliances. Some of the upper cabinets are also made with glass facades so that beautiful dishes can be displayed on them. On the loggia adjacent to the kitchen, there is a storage space inside a bench-sofa and a locker opposite, which is supposed to be for books, papers and decor. The hostess’s bedroom has a built-in wardrobe for everyday clothes, a storage space under the bed (it has a folding mattress), as well as a pair of bedside tables. Lighting Due to the low ceiling height, the author of the project refused chandeliers. The general lighting is solved by spotlights. As additional scenarios of light, a floor lamp and sconces in the living room, table lamps in the bedroom, sconces in the hallway and hallway, as well as to illuminate the mirror in the bathroom were used. Designer Milena Yanichkina, author of the project: This apartment is located in a house in a quiet residential area near the green square. I didn’t see glossy glamour in this space. I wanted to bring the maximum amount of heat. So that it envelops like a warm cashmere blanket. Hence, the main palette of the object appeared — beige, chocolate. Bright accents — in an armchair, an ottoman — are natural and natural, echo the trees outside the window, depending on the time of year. The bedroom is not on the sunny side, in the window we see the blue sky, from which cold light falls. The main palette here is built on gray and pearl shades. The walls are painted in a colder color (unlike the rest of the rooms), giving the room more air. The accent here is a deep blue, moderate and self—sufficient, introduced into the fabric – edging on the headboard, pillows. Pearl-colored satin curtains, which give the room a glow, are associated with silk sheets, create an atmosphere of intimacy.
