Santa Monica house built around an olive tree Design 15.11.2022 Architects from the Woods + Dangaran bureau preserved an old olive tree in the center of the courtyard and built a house right around it Photo Joe Fletcher The owners of this house in Santa Monica did not want to chop down an old olive tree growing in the very center of their plot. As a result, the architects of the Woods + Dangaran bureau preserved the tree, leaving it in the courtyard, and the building was built around it. And at the same time, so that it is suitable for the daily life of a family with three young children. It turned out to be a modern house with white brick facades and light interiors, in which there is a lot of wood,” the architects note. Photo Joe Fletcher The house was planned U-shaped, where in the side buildings there are two living rooms facing the courtyard. One of them is located near the entrance — where the owners usually receive friends. It has a large travertine fireplace, custom-made sofas and a solid walnut bar area. Instead of the usual sofas, the architects put there four club chairs with rotating bases, they are arranged around a coffee table made of stone. Photo Joe Fletcher The family dining room is located between these two living rooms, and its panoramic windows face the courtyard. The interiors facing the olive tree patio are very light thanks to full-length sliding glass doors and floor-to-ceiling windows. A huge bed “for five” was specially designed in the master bedroom. Three children are still small and constantly resort to their parents to “sleep it off”, now there is enough space on the bed for everyone! And outside there is a spacious terrace with relaxation areas for the whole family. Photo Joe Fletcher Photo Joe Fletcher Elena Igumnova Original content from the site
