The coffee shop is located in a residential complex located on the banks of the Ob River, offering a picturesque view of the arched Bugrinsky Bridge. Its geometry and architectural elements inspired the designer to create the concept of Siberian Story: to tell the centuries-old Siberian history through the interior and to do it atypically, through humor and allegories.

One of the disadvantages of the original layout of the room were rhythmically repeating load-bearing columns. Thanks to the decorative finishing with the help of mirrors and round sconces with hidden illumination, the columns turned out to “dissolve” in space. In addition, mirrors, reflecting in each other, create the effect of an endless suite. Almost all the furniture and decor in the interior are made by local craftsmen according to the designer’s sketches. This decision also supports the concept of the institution — Siberian history.

One of the clients’ requests was to use the image of a Siberian bear in the interior, since it is part of the coffee shop’s brandbook. In addition, it was important to add modernity: create a spectacular interior with interesting details, locations for photos. So a bear in mirrored glasses appeared on the wall — a favorite place for guests to take selfies.

The combination of cool inky and smoky gray colors with warm coral symbolizes the eternal longing of Siberians for a hot summer with bright colors and the sun at its zenith. The plaster decor on the wall in the form of miniature bears’ heads is an ironic reference to the phrase that every Siberian has heard at least once: “They say that bears walk on the roads in Siberia.” And the gilded noses seem to hint to visitors that more than one wish was made here, which is confirmed by the neon sign “My Happy Place”.

The geometry of the podstoles, as well as the cross-lacing on the chairs at the tables, refers visitors to the bridge, which is visible from the windows of the coffee shop. The institution hosts evenings with live music, so a small podium is installed in the hall-a stage for artists and modern musical acoustic equipment, for the same reason the room is completely noise-insulated. During the daytime, the podium is occupied by tables, providing additional seating for the guests of the institution.

The lamp in the form of frozen ice cubes complements the “winter” part of the story. The author’s panel “February” by the Siberian artist evokes a whole range of associations — from birch bark to snow-covered Siberian fields. The texture of the panel is supported by rhythmic milling of the bar cabinet.

The interior of the bathrooms corresponds to the general “Siberian” concept of a coffee shop — sinks made of natural river stone, decorative mirrors with lighting and a tile pattern resembling snowflakes. The mirrors were made by local artist Kuanysh Surganov, who created the illusion of Siberian herbs frozen in an icy crust. They were collected in the autumn forest just before the frosts, so the story turned out to be as true as possible.

“I wanted to design the space, avoiding stereotypical associations with Siberia, to fill it with a modern sound and fresh ideas, so that the guests of the institution would look at the details with interest and guess the thematic line that I wanted to tell through the interior,” says the author of the project. — I am proud that it turned out to demonstrate the potential of our Novosibirsk masters and artists who were able to realize all their ideas with talent!”
