Summer holidays have begun. And if you don’t know what to do with your child, pay attention to the Moscow Planetarium. Here, after a two-year reconstruction, the updated interactive museum “Lunarium” was opened. The first floor is dedicated to the Earth, the second to the Universe. The exhibition presents more than 100 exhibits with the most innovative solutions from Russian developers. Among the objects are recreated conditions of famous experiments, interactive installations and simulators, some of them have no analogues in the world.

The reconstruction project was handled by the PS Culture bureau, and the main partner was the Manders company, whose paints were used to decorate both floors of the renovated Lunarium. Shades from the palette of the English brand Little Greene were best suited for the walls and some exhibits.

“The entrance group is made in the form of a globe — after all, it is from our planet that the exposition will begin,” says architect Yulia Polova. — The first level is the history of the Earth: the emergence of life, from unicellular to intelligent, natural phenomena and scientific discoveries. The richness and diversity of the planet are reflected in the decoration of the level. Prefabricated modules with exhibits are made of panels of natural colors and supplemented with inserts of patterns. All panels differ in texture: the combination of glossy, matte and perforated surfaces has a beneficial effect on the development of cognitive abilities of our youngest visitors, as well as develop tactile intelligence.”

“But no matter how beautiful the Earth is, the eyes of humanity will always be fixed on the sky — and this is the main leitmotif of history. The sky is a transit theme of the museum, connecting the level of the planet and the level of space. In space, this is embodied in the form of an atrium uniting the floors, in the center of which there is a voluminous spectacular moon — the symbol of the museum. Her company consists of “clouds” — felt acoustic panels and accent cylindrical lamps that support the overall geometry of the space.”

“The lower level of the museum transports visitors beyond the layers of the atmosphere, into the cosmic vacuum. The cheerful colors of the Earth are replaced by a monochrome palette of open space. The character of the finish becomes more intense: metallized hemispheres of saturated shades imitate planets, and the gold edging refers to the elements of spacecraft equipment. The installation of LED bulbs on the ceiling, just like a scattering of stars of the Milky Way, creates the effect of complete immersion in space. The marmoleum inlay on the floor shows the trajectories of celestial bodies. On the central axis of the museum there are two key exhibits of the level: the Tellurium and the Foucault Pendulum, allowing visitors to recreate the famous astrophysical experiment.”

The museum will have a lecture hall, a library, a coffee shop and a playground with a space rocket. www.planetarium-moscow.ru
