What a modern interior looks like in a traditional timber house: a real example | ivd.ru Design 04.12.2022 Designer Yulia Lyublyanova applied modern techniques and finishing materials, creating a harmonious space in the walls of a wooden house. Customers and tasks The owners of this two-storey house with a basement are a family with a teenage daughter and a preschool-age son. They built the house for their needs, so the layout and number of rooms were determined initially. The family turned to the designer Yulia Lyublyanova for interior design. “It was necessary to create a cozy, functional, harmonious and durable living space. Before designing the kitchen, the customer immediately said that she wanted a glass apron through which the beam itself would be visible. She also immediately indicated that she wanted paneled gray facades,” says the author of the project. Layout The house is two-storeyed, with a basement. The space is divided in a traditional way. On the first level there are common areas: a large hall, a bathroom, a living room, a kitchen and an office, which is also a guest room. The designer suggested dividing the living room and kitchen with a glass partition, preserving the feeling of free space. On the second floor there are private rooms: the master bedroom, two children’s rooms, a shower room. On the ground floor there is a swimming pool and a sauna. Finishing Finishing materials were selected following the principle of naturalness. The wooden walls of the house were left, covering them with light translucent paint. The fireplace in the living room was decorated with large-format granite under a black stone, and the wall behind the TV with a tree. Granite was used on the floor (in the hallway and in the kitchen) and parquet (in the living rooms and office). The bathroom on the ground floor was decorated with tiles, choosing a finish with an imitation of the natural texture of wood and sand. On the second floor, the shower room is partially finished with granite: one of the walls, the shower area and the floor. They decided to leave part of the walls in wood, covering them with transparent varnish. On the ground floor, large-format porcelain stoneware was used, natural textures were also chosen to preserve the unity of the interior and the feeling of naturalness. Furniture and storage systems The forms of furniture are mostly modern. Most of the facades of the cabinets are made with panels, including a kitchen set, as the hostess wanted. Upholstered furniture of straight shapes without unnecessary details. The bedrooms have beds with soft headboards. For the parent, they picked up a bed with a headboard in a carriage tie. In the son’s nursery there is a curly headboard in the form of funny “ears”, which added the necessary playful mood. As for the storage systems, they have been thought out in sufficient quantity. Each nursery and bedroom has wardrobes. In the bedroom, they are installed on the wall with a sloping ceiling, which is provided by the design of the cabinets. The office has a system of cabinets and shelves for books and things of guests who can stay there. In the living room, the TV area is combined with a real fireplace. Under the TV there is a small cabinet with drawers. In the kitchen, in addition to the linear kitchen set, there is a sideboard for dishes. In the hall there is a large roomy wardrobe made to order. For small things, a chest of drawers is provided, on the countertop of which a beautiful decorative vignette is assembled, attracting attention. Also, a shelving with open shelves is built into the niche. In the bathroom and shower cabinets with drawers under the sink. The shower also has an open storage rack for small items. Lighting The main lighting scenario is black track lights that contrast with the light wooden walls and ceiling. In the kitchen, a chandelier in a classic style was hung over the dining table, this is an accent detail. Sconces are provided to illuminate the stairs, as well as paintings in the hallway, study and living room. In the bedroom, table lamps as an additional light source. There is a bedside lamp in the son’s room, as well as in the daughter’s room. A dressing table with a backlit mirror was also provided for my daughter. In the bathroom, they made a hidden ceiling illumination, used built-in spot lighting, and provided suspensions over the sink as an addition. Designer Yulia Lyublyanova, author of the project: The accent color in the project is dark gray, which can be traced in the furniture (kitchen, chest of drawers in the hallway, TV cabinet, sofa in the living room, bed in the bedroom) and in some finishing materials. It perfectly plays in contrast with the light-colored timber walls painted with translucent paint. Materials for wood tiles in bathrooms, furniture made of veneered MDF give the house comfort and warmth. Overall, the house came out very spacious, light and welcoming.
