Under one roof: a house for two families in the Moscow region

This house has two mistresses, not one. The friends decided to live next door in a duplex in the suburban village of Bristol. Each family is provided with a separate wing. Architect Marcel Iskandarov designed the interior in accordance with the tastes of both customers

OBJECT PARAMETERS

Property type: duplex in the village “Bristol”, Vnukovo

Square footage: two wings of the house — 250 m2 each

Style: classic

The main idea of the project: “In this project I had two customers at once. I wanted to create an interior in tune with the character of each client — as a result, the two wings of the house are decorated absolutely differently.”

Color scheme: “Since the nature of lighting varies from room to room, one half of the house is designed in a cold color scheme, and the other in warmer tones.”

“This project is very unusual — I had to work with two clients at the same time,” says architect Marcel Iskandarov. — One family occupied the south wing of the duplex, the second — the north. Close friends decided to settle in the neighborhood. Each family has 250 sq. m at their disposal, but the interiors are strikingly different. The duplex is three-storey. Downstairs there are living rooms, kitchens, dressing rooms and utility rooms. The second floor is occupied by bedrooms. Upstairs, under the roof, we have a lounge and offices. Since my customers are not only friends, but also colleagues, they spend almost all the time together, it was necessary to provide for the transition from one wing of the duplex to another. We settled on the idea of a patio, which can be accessed from the dining rooms.”

“Each wing is decorated according to the taste of its owner,” says the architect. — If one part of the house is more classical, then the second (talking about the north wing) rather plays the Scandinavian theme. Stucco decor was individually drawn for each room, a color palette was selected. Even the shade of white on the ceiling and cornices differs from room to room according to the nature of the lighting.”

“Some purchases were spontaneous. For example, when we found a Spanish neo—Gothic dining set, we didn’t know where to put it yet,” says the architect. — We bought it because everyone really liked it. As a result, its elements were dragged into different rooms, which they did not regret for a second.”

“While working on the project, I came across prints by Soviet artists of the 1970s and 80s. One of them, a portrait of Dostoevsky, fit perfectly into the bedroom of the customer’s father, an amateur detective (by the way, in the past an investigator!)”As a result, the code name “Dostoevsky’s Bedroom” was firmly fixed behind the room.

“My goal was a classic interior, but without deliberate stylization,” says the architect. “And, of course, I wanted to create a cozy nest filled with a variety of impressions, memories and personal belongings of the owners.”

“There is a lot of furniture in the room according to my sketches,” says the architect. “In addition, there are antiques and vintage, which we found in Belgium and Holland. The house continues to be filled with a variety of objects — both housewives have felt the taste and excitement for collecting antiques, which I am very happy about. The house lives and changes for the better.”
