Apartment in a 1927 house: white walls, cool details and a little retro Design 06.07.2022 This apartment belongs to the artist. Architect Vladimir Karpenko has created a kind of “blank canvas” in which details play a major role. Customer and tasks This apartment is located in a house built in 1927. The hostess, an artist girl, set one task for architect Vladimir Karpenko: to create a comfortable space for recreation, creativity and reception of guests. Redevelopment Initially, there were three rooms on 78 square meters, an elongated small kitchen, a fairly large balcony opening from the main room, as well as a bathroom attached to the kitchen and a mini-bathroom with access from the corridor. As a result of the redevelopment, a two-bedroom apartment was made from a three-room apartment. But this is justified by the needs of the hostess. Two small rooms and a corridor adjacent to them were combined, this space was allocated for a bedroom. It turned out to be spacious, with two windows facing on different sides. The door to the bathroom, which used to be from the kitchen, was turned into the bedroom. Thus, the hostess got her own master bathroom with a window, which is a great success in urban apartments. Also, a small wardrobe was allocated in the bedroom. Finishing Paint was chosen for wall decoration. The main color in the hallway, bedroom and living room is cold white with a gray undertone. So the space looks even bigger, and the ceilings are even higher (the original height is already rather big 3 meters). In the bathroom and bathroom with gray paint, a white tile was combined-a boar. A solution that has already become a classic today. Wooden parquet is laid on the floor in the rooms, including the hallway. There are tiles in wet areas. Furniture and storage systems The main storage system in the apartment is a dressing room. In the living room there are shelves for books and decor. The kitchen has a linear kitchen set with built-in appliances. Instead of a standard dining table, there is a tall small table with bar stools. The architect comments on this choice with the desire to open the view from the window to those who will be sitting at the table. In the interior, in general, there is little furniture. A soft group has been formed in the living room, united by a Persian carpet. In the bedroom, in addition to the bed, there is a work desk. There is a console in the hallway. Low poufs-banquettes are offered as seats. This decision evokes associations with the French “salon” everything for the reception of guests and a pleasant, relaxed pastime. Lighting The interior is not overloaded with light scenarios. High ceilings allowed the use of fairly massive chandeliers. They are suspended from the ceiling in the living room and hallway. There is a visually lighter ceiling light in the bedroom, as well as in the kitchen and bathroom. Additional scenarios are implemented in different ways: for example, there are ceiling spots and a floor lamp in the sofa area of the living room, a table lamp on the windowsill in the kitchen next to the dining table, a sconce on the sides of the mirror in the hallway. Architect Vladimir Karpenko, author of the project: The external fusion of the architecture of constructivism and classicism of the house determined the style and further vector of development of the main interior motifs. The design of the apartment also feels the influence of French interiors of the early 20th century. The customer — a creative girl-artist — participated in all the processes of design, repair and decoration. Bright and individual objects located in each room of the apartment reflect her main hobbies — a vinyl record player, an easel, a free-standing vintage bicycle.
