Apartment in the center of Moscow according to the laws of Feng Shui Design 21.03.2023 Designer Maria Petrova tells how she managed to combine Chinese philosophy and the spirit of old Moscow Chandeliers, vintage, Vintage Magiya Stekla. She lives in the center, walks to work, does yoga every day, attends all exhibitions and new theater productions, skis in winter, and sails and scuba dives in summer. It was her boundless energy and versatility that we wanted to reflect in the interior. Vase, Levadnaja Ceramics. Photo Dina Alexandrova. Style: Alexandra Pylenkova The apartment is located in a house built in 1883. From the outside, the building has preserved its historical appearance, but inside during the Soviet era, reconstruction was carried out, and we just got the apartment with repairs of that period — with white square tiles, cast-iron bathroom and peeling wallpaper. Nevertheless, it provided an excellent volume for the implementation of the most interesting ideas — almost square in plan, with ceilings of 3.5 meters, six tall windows on both sides and a balcony overlooking a quiet courtyard. The painting of an unknown author is the property of the customer. Photo Dina Alexandrova. Style: Alexandra Pylenkova Lamp, “Katya Gerdt’s Workshop”. Hand-painted wallpaper, Fresq. Photo Dina Alexandrova. Style: Alexandra Pylenkova We developed the layout together with a feng shui specialist and tried for a long time to come to a solution that would suit everyone. As a result, we managed to place everything the customer needed in the apartment: a kitchen-living room, a bedroom with a work desk, a large bathroom and a spacious dressing room. The basis was shades of blue and green, which we supplemented with yellow accents. I also wanted to bring red and red tones, because the hostess is a very bright girl, but since we started following feng shui, we decided to go all the way. Armchair and chair, Lox design. Style: Alexandra Pylenkova Since the apartment is located in a pre-revolutionary building, we decided to use classical elements to convey the spirit of old Moscow. This is how stucco cornices, stucco framing of windows and doorways, herringbone parquet, moldings on the walls in the bedroom and beautiful floor-length curtains on brass cornices appeared. The bed, wardrobe and bedside tables are made to order according to the designer’s sketches. Carpet, Art de Vivre. Textiles, Amalia. Painting by Victoria Fomina, AG Art Gallery. Photo Dina Alexandrova. Style: Alexandra Pylenkova We tried to hide the kitchen as much as possible, so the main working area was made open and painted dark blue, and all the storage was hidden in a niche. For the same purpose, I suggested pasting hand-painted wallpaper over the apron, which then moved to the sofa area. Decor, Levadnaja Ceramics. Sconce, vintage. Photo Dina Alexandrova. Style: Alexandra Pylenkova Painting by Ekaterina Pugacheva. Photo Dina Alexandrova. Style: Alexandra Pylenkova A dense blue-purple shade was chosen for the bedroom, giving it some intimacy. Also, a large cabinet was placed in a niche here and an office area was allocated. We searched for all the furniture and decor items in vintage stores, at Avito and at furniture salon sales. The cabinet and mirror are made to order according to the designer’s sketches. Photo Dina Alexandrova. Style: Alexandra Pylenkova We wanted the bathroom to look more like a living room, a boudoir, than a technical room. Therefore, the walls were painted in a rather rich blue, a crystal chandelier was hung and a bedside table was placed on elegant legs with a sink.
