Photo KIRILL OVCHINNIKOV Style ANNA KRAUSE “Intellectual minimalism” is how the authors of the project, Alexander and Anna Krause, founders of KRAUZEarchitects, define the style of the new VIP lounge of the Azimut Moscow Hotel. It is located on the twentieth floor of the four-star Azimut Hotel on Smolenskaya Square, from where an impressive view of Moscow opens through panoramic windows: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building and the Old Arbat, the Moscow State University high-rise and Moscow City. In addition to Azimut Lounge, there are also three conference rooms on the floor for various events that can be combined into a single space. Ceiling, Paper Design. Photo KIRILL OVCHINNIKOV Style ANNA KRAUSE At the start of the project, the floor was completely empty, the old partitions and finishes were dismantled. The architects have done a seriouswork on the layout of the premises for the simultaneous stay of a large number of people, taking into account all fire regulations. The halls were located along the panoramic glazing, which made it possible to maximize the view characteristics, increase the capacity and flexibility of the space. “In fact, it was not so easy: after all, a lot of communication risers pass through the floor,” Alexander and Anna share. Gray color with blue accents was chosen for the event halls. “It is the most neutral, so the room is easy to style for any event,” the architects say. — Chairs, on the contrary, are multicolored: with their help, attention is focused on the center of the room, and they also dilute the overall picture with their bright colors. The strict geometry of the space is complemented by a light graphic suspended ceiling and brutal lamps. All halls are interconnected by transformable partitions with good sound insulation: so, the space can be modified for any event.” Chairs, Fredericia. Chairs, Linteloo. Floor, walls, Baldini. Photo KIRILL OVCHINNIKOV Style ANNA KRAUSE The architects worked on the design of the bathrooms together with the Laufen company, which they met in a new showroom in Madrid. There were presented exclusive products that the Swiss manufacturer designed and produced to order for a hotel in New York. I wanted to do something similar in Moscow. So in the large bathroom of the VIP lounge, which overlooks the Arbat, countertops with built-in sinks appeared: they repeat the geometry of the facade with their shape (Laufen made these products from a new injection molding material without joints and seams). Today it is one of the most “instagrammable” (an extremist organization banned in Russia) places of the establishment: hotel guests constantly come here to take a spectacular photo. Panoramic view of Moscow from the window is one of the main decorations of the VIP lounge. Photo KIRILL OVCHINNIKOV Style ANNA KRAUSE The interior of the lounge, according to the customer’s plan, was to differ from the design of the entire hotel, and solutions and materials were to emphasize its premium level. There is a homely atmosphere here, which is created by comfortable furniture and soft, well-thought-out lighting. The bar counter is designed by designers. Bar stools, Piet Boon. Chairs, Linteloo. Photo KIRILL OVCHINNIKOV Style ANNA KRAUSE The color scheme is inspired by ancient Japanese painting, so Zen reigns here, Alexander and Anna laugh. Natural materials, a classic attribute of luxury, are fully used here. On the floor there is a “French herringbone” solid oak parquet, the furniture is made of oak veneer, the wall panels are made of noble patinated brass, and the countertop of the bar is made of natural marble of a beautiful greenish—gray shade. Photo KIRILL OVCHINNIKOV Style ANNA KRAUSE Everything in Azimut Lounge has a comfortable rest, but the main decoration is, of course, the views from the window. “Especially beautiful light can be caught here at dawn and at sunset. We recommend everyone to visit here during these hours,” the architects say.
