Béton: a new cultural and educational space in Moscow Design 10.06.2022 A new “place of power” has appeared in Moscow — the Béton Visual Culture Center, created to promote and develop photography and contemporary art in Russia. The first group exhibition is already working! In Moscow, a new Béton space has opened on Yakimanskaya Embankment, where, as the authors of the project themselves say, “there is a place for entertainment and enlightenment, and art and inspiration become part of everyday life.” 1/2 Cultural and educational events related to the development of photography and contemporary art in Russia will be held here. The exhibition program will touch on the past and present of visual culture, history and current processes, including the work of fashionable contemporary artists. The Béton Center for Visual Culture sees its main mission in assisting all creatively thinking units, providing access to the photo archive and ensuring the continuity of Russian contemporary art. “We are doing everything to make new topics and points of view available to the widest audience,” the authors of the project say. The first exhibition projects have already started working. Now there is a group exhibition “The Unicorn and the Lost Kingdom”, organized jointly with the Osnova Gallery, which unites foreign and Russian authors. The exhibition is based on the principles of unarchiving and reviewing the material of previous years. The present, which is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate, forces us to turn to the memory of the past and raise layers of history. As archival objects, the artists’ works speak about the past, which does not exist, about lost hopes and faith in the future. Photo Osnova Gallery In the exhibition space, art objects function as evidence of time, markers of turns and decisions. Presenting the material as a volume of equivalent units and combining various aesthetic principles, genres and mediums, this narrative does not offer unambiguous answers, but reveals the present through the genealogy of meaninglessness. https://betoncvc.com Photo Osnova Gallery When: June 3 — July 3 Where: Yakimanskaya embankment, 2 page 1 Original content from the site
