Bright apartment of a diplomat in the center of Rome

The architectural bureau 02A Studio has turned an apartment on the ground floor of a house of the beginning of the XX century into a bright dynamic space where objects of modern design, vintage, art and travel souvenirs live side by side

This apartment, located a stone’s throw from the National Gallery of Modern Art, belongs to the diplomat Alfonso Tagliaferri (Alfonso Tagliaferri). On duty, he often goes on long business trips, so the main task of the 02A Studio bureau was to create a cozy home where he would like to return after diplomatic missions, and find a place for an extensive collection of items brought from different countries.

Entering the apartment, we immediately find ourselves in a residential area where a glass partition “cuts through” the plaster vaults of the ceiling, painted red. The kitchen is dominated by white and ochre-yellow shades, complementing the floor, lined with grainy tiles, and matte granite countertops. The phrase in Esperanto is engraved on the kitchen apron: Noblas tiu, kiu staras signature en siaj ideoj, sed noblas eĉ pli tiu, kiu kapablas ilin ŝanĝi (The one who is firm in his ideas is noble, but the one who is able to change them is even more noble).

In the living room, the Bretagne leather sofas from Poltrona Frau are harmoniously combined with French Art Deco chairs from the 1940s and an old Venetian lantern. From the living room through the arch you can go to the cozy dining room, where light walls become a backdrop for antique furniture and art objects. The Illan birch pendant lamps from Luceplan adjoins vintage chairs from the 50s, continuing the dialogue of the continuous dialogue of antiquity and modernity.

In the private part of the apartment there is an office, which also serves as a cinema hall. There is a Helsinki desk from Desalto and the iconic Serbelloni armchair designed by Vico Magistretti for De Padova.

A cobalt blue velvet curtain hides the heart of the house: a spacious bedroom with its own bathroom. A mirrored cube in the center of the room reflects the sun’s rays, filling the entire space with light.
