Since I had to work on the interior of a room in a communal apartment, I needed to place a maximum of functional zones in it. Although the neighbors in this apartment, contrary to the stereotypical idea of communal apartments, live as a close-knit family, everyone wants to have maximum personal space and keep house, if possible, separately. Therefore, even before the renovation, an improvised kitchen appeared in the customer’s small room. During the work, the room was divided into three functional zones: the entrance — with spacious cabinets and a refrigerator hidden in one of them, the dining room — with a bar and a kitchen island and a recreation area.

Kitchen, cabinets and console, “Stylish kitchens”. The ombre effect on the walls resembles a sunrise.

The hostess of the room initially did not put any rigid framework, limiting herself to a requirement that can be described with the words “so that it would not be worse.” Such freedom of action, of course, inspired. As well as the charismatic hostess herself, who had a pronounced acting streak. Perhaps her temperament to some extent prompted the creation of such a bright interior.

Despite the small size of the room, several design techniques are used in its design at once. Firstly, it is zoning with color, which made it possible to visually enlarge the room. Two more techniques are involved in surface finishing: the combination of smooth and embossed textures on the walls and the fabric covering of cabinets, thanks to which cabinets are not perceived as a utilitarian storage system and the entrance area looks not like a transit space, but as part of the living room. The breakfast counter at the kitchen island is used as a workplace. And the living room area, which turns into a bedroom at night, is comfortably located by the window at the maximum distance from the door.

Above the island are IKEA table lamps converted into pendant lights. Decor, H&M Home.

I had to do a lot myself. With the help of a construction stapler, I covered the cabinets with a lined fabric. The lamps above the table I myself converted from table lamps from IKEA. After completion, I replaced the lampshades with larger ones and laid a mount for hanging to the ceiling at the base.

From the moment of developing the interior concept to the completion of the repair — only 10 days. But the most striking impression is the effect of surprise that awaits any guest of this room.
