Architect Alina Kashirina designed this house for herself and her family. “I wanted to create a modern, but at the same time relaxed interior without pretentious luxury and rigor. It was supposed to be a dacha — a place where you can relax from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy nature. I also wanted the project to be fairly budgetary. We did not order furniture in Europe and mainly used what we had and were available in stores,” says Alina.

“Initially, the house was a ready-made wooden box with a roof, so all your wishes had to be “inscribed” in the existing load-bearing walls. In addition, we had to make several additional partitions and in some cases move the entrances.”

“It was my first time working with a wooden house and initially I wanted to preserve the natural shade of wood. However, when the beams were completely polished, it became clear that the color looks too simple, so I decided to tint the walls. It had to be done in four stages, which took longer. But the result exceeded all expectations.”

“We chose most of the furniture from availability, but there are still custom-made items in the interior. The large bookcase, which occupied the central place in the living room, was made in parts in different cities of Russia. The facades are distinguished by an expressive texture, which the masters created manually. The dining table was also made to order according to my drawings. I tried to give the tabletop a more natural rounded shape and supplemented it with five supports of different diameters.”

“In addition, we decided to give a new life to old, already out of fashion, but high-quality furniture, such as a chest of drawers from Ceccotti Collezioni, a sofa brand Minotti, a bed and bedside tables from Orizzonti. The objects were repainted, new textures were added, the upholstery was changed, and now they look very modern, fit perfectly into the interior, and most importantly, have their own history!”.

“The look of the interior is completed by unusual handmade items: chandeliers in the form of wasps’ nests, woven by Moroccan nuns; wedding decorations of the African Maasai tribe; mandolas brought from the kingdom of Bhutan; Moroccan carpets and a huge panel made in the macrame technique.”
