Despite the meager footage, this is a good start for two young people.” Olga Tishchenko, designer. Photo Nick Rudenko “A small space needed to be used 100%, placing everything necessary for life in it. First of all, it was necessary to visually increase not only the area, but also the ceilings, which are only 2.4 meters in this house. And also to preserve the atmosphere of the Soviet house of the 60s, but not to fall into the reconstruction of the life of those years, but to create something more suitable for the age and temperament of customers. They definitely didn’t need a retro interior.” In the kitchen area, the window was slightly narrowed to accommodate deep cabinets. The window overlooks the loggia, so the facade of the house was not damaged. Sockets are built into the window slopes, which allows you to use a concrete window sill as an additional work surface. In addition, it was necessary to equip a mini-office, but so that the papers were not in sight and that the cleaning of the apartment took no more than an hour. No dust collectors, clean space without visual noise.” Photo Nick Rudenko. Style: Elena Sereda and Alena Bukanova “All the extra partitions have been removed. This made it possible to combine the rooms and make the apartment space large not only visually, but also physically” Photo Nick Rudenko. Style: Elena Sereda and Alena Bukanova “Initially it was a studio apartment. The entrance area (2.5 m2) was so narrow that one person could hardly squeeze through there. The room (16 m2) and the kitchen (8.5 m2) were separated by a thin partition. It became possible to demolish it after we abandoned the gas stove in favor of an induction one. The partitions separating the room from the hallway were also dismantled. The entrance area was expanded, one of the walls was turned into a storage system, and the bed was hidden in an alcove. It turned out to be an open space!” Wall paint, Little Greene. Carpet, Art de Vivre. Parquet board, Coswick. Photo Nick Rudenko. The alcove is very small, so in order to expand it, I decided to play with the scale by placing a large panel made of Jim Thompson fabric over the headboard. It created an interesting visual image and competed well with the bed in terms of scale.” “The loggia space was made very “clean” and concise. All cabinets are flush, nothing sticks out and does not stick out.” Chair, Calligaris. Porcelain stoneware, Ariostea. Plaster for concrete, Decorici. Photo Nick Rudenko. Style: Elena Sereda and Alena Bukanova “In small spaces, it is very important to avoid fragmentation in everything. Both in color, in designs, and in details” The mirrored floor-to-ceiling cabinet turned out not only roomy, but also allowed to greatly increase the space and let reflected natural light into the hallway. The walls are a smooth background on which any bright accents that customers will choose themselves in the future will look great. The colors were chosen from the upper registers, that is, those that approach the Off-White palette in their lightness. Because of the trees growing in the yard, the apartment is quite dark even during the day, so any color looks richer and darker by two tones here.” To create a solid image of the hallway interior, one color was used to paint the walls, the bathroom door and the entrance door. The cabinet is made to order. Photo Nick Rudenko. Style: Elena Sereda and Alena Bukanova “The bathroom area is only 3 m2. That’s where I had to apply all my knowledge of ergonomics. Despite their tiny size, bathrooms can and should be comfortable, but they will be so only if everything is planned correctly, taking into account ergonomic requirements. Before the renovation, there was a small bathtub here, we dismantled it and installed a shower cabin. Yes, it is narrow — only 75 cm in width, but due to the fact that its length is more than 120 cm, it is quite comfortable to wash even for a large person. For finishing, I chose a new generation of German porcelain stoneware – painted in bulk, only 6 mm thick, it is very convenient to work with, not slippery, and resembles velvet in texture.” Bathroom.
