The arrangement of this apartment in Paris turned into a real adventure for Christophe Poyet and dragged on for several years. It all started with the fact that in 2011 he bought three adjacent rooms in a historic building of the second half of the XIX century. Built by Baron Osman on behalf of Napoleon III, the house has six floors and a mansard roof. “Servants used to live in these attic rooms,” recalls Christophe.

Soon Poyer wanted to expand the apartment by buying two other rooms. But their owner, an elderly woman who has not been engaged in repairs for about 50 years, was not going to sell them. “I visited her regularly and tried to convince her, but she was adamant,” recalls Christophe. Nevertheless, his perseverance finally paid off: in 2016, she agreed to sell him the premises.

In order to turn individual rooms into a full-fledged apartment, Christophe got rid of most of the partitions near the windows. Thanks to this, a single corridor was formed connecting all the rooms, except perhaps the bathroom. Poyer also purchased a small room opposite the entrance to the apartment, which now serves as a guest bedroom.

To achieve stylistic unity, Christophe used the same kind of smoky-gray parquet in the decoration, and decorated the snow-white ceilings with decorative cornices. At the same time, each space has its own distinctive features: in the bedroom it is a dark blue-gray Farrow & Ball wall paint in combination with mustard pillows and a burgundy plaid, in the kitchen it is a marble countertop and luxurious bronze—lined cabinets, and in the dining room it is wallpaper with spreading palm trees from Pierre Frey.

Christophe and Emil Humbert, his business partner, are always on the lookout for antiques and art objects that are an integral, if not the main, part of their projects. “We go to the Saint-Ouen flea market at least once a month,” Poyer admits. They also frequent galleries, including the famous Patrick Seguin in Paris and Nilufar in Milan. Christophe saved one of these finds for himself: two Italian lamps of the 1950s by Luigi Caccia Dominioni (Luigi Caccia Dominioni) hang in the bedroom. “I bought them five years ago and kept them in our office until I found a suitable place,” says Poye. www.humbertpoyet.com
