ELLE DECORATION visiting architect Pavel Zheleznov (bonus: video) Design 08.06.2022 ELLE DECORATION continues a series of video tours of the homes and gardens of famous designers. Today we will visit the architect Pavel Zheleznov in his apartment on the Arbat. Stay tuned! Photo SERGEY ANANYEV How did you choose this apartment? The main reason for buying an apartment was the area with which I have many memories from my childhood, a beautiful building in the style of the Stalinist Empire by Mikhail Posokhin and a magnificent view from the apartment windows of the Moscow urban landscape with mosaics of buildings from different eras. What had to be redone? The apartment has been completely rebuilt, but has retained its structure of three main rooms strung on the axis of the enfilade along the front wall. Photo SERGEY ANANYEV The main idea of interior design? It is based on the idea of an interior with eclectic furniture from different eras, created by different generations of residents and united by the theme of the architecture of the house. The white color of the walls was the background for a large collection of graphic and pictorial works and books, and the dark parquet floor creates the necessary contrast. Photo SERGEY ANANYEV What did you particularly succeed in the interior, and what would you redo here? The visual connection of all the rooms of the apartment looks especially impressive — from this the interior has acquired additional space and convenient functional connections. The layout and interior turned out to be so comfortable for me that I didn’t plan to redo anything here. Photo SERGEY ANANYEV What is your favorite place in the house? Every place in the house is loved in its own way. I used to spend more time in the kitchen during morning breakfasts and, of course, in the bedroom. Now I work at the table in the living room and discovered this room for myself from a new angle. The dining table, which has become a working one, is located by the window, it is very comfortable. Photo SERGEY ANANYEV What are your favorite interior items? Of course, my favorite item at home is the sofa in the kitchen, I remember it from childhood. My collection of books is also very eclectic — from antique publications to ultramodern architecture, this is a kind of continuation of the theme of the interior of different generations. Is your perfect day at home? I usually spend very little time at home. During the pandemic, of course, a lot has changed. Of course, morning coffee in the kitchen with a view of the facade of Mikhail Vrubel, then time for projects, mail and work at the computer. If I have free days, I can do drawing or graphics, it doesn’t happen so often, but I really like it. Original content from the site
