How did you choose this apartment?

This is my husband’s apartment. It stood in a dilapidated state for a very long time, apparently waiting for me as a designer.

What did you have to redo?

Almost everything! This is a former communal apartment, and we made two out of one large apartment. I had to completely change the floors, repair the roof, restore all the windows of the front part of the apartment. And, of course, we struggled with the layout for a very long time.

What is the basis of interior design?

Having a beautiful view of the Kazan Cathedral and a limited budget, we took as a basis the idea of Parisian apartments: light walls, wooden floors and art on the walls, furniture — not built-in, was acquired gradually.

What did you particularly succeed in the interior, and what would you redo?

I’m not really happy with the hall. Initially, a classic thorough arrangement of furniture with two workstations and a sofa dividing the living room into two zones was invented. We argued for a very long time, because this is a family project, but at some point the room took on a life of its own. Now that we are all together, we have an office, a school, and a gym here.

What is your favorite place in the house?

I really like to lie on the sofa and look at the cathedral. However, it turns out to lie down for a long time only when you are sick. And I really like the kitchen, it turned out to be a cozy place.

What are your favorite interior items?

I love paintings, there aren’t many of them, but each one has its own story. I like the chest of drawers in the hall. Initially, I was against this item, but now I can’t imagine a living room without it. I love a kitchen table made of old boards, it is incredibly pleasant to the touch and only gets prettier over the years.

Is your perfect day at home?

A quiet breakfast in the kitchen with the family, then everyone runs away, and you can be alone quietly, and in the evening — dinner with friends.
