The farm products store with the telling name “I want to go to the country” is located on the first floor of a residential building in a residential area of St. Petersburg. The main task of the brnz bureau team was to create a comfortable “boutique” atmosphere so that visitors would want to come back again and again. At the same time, the budget was severely limited. “There was only enough money for special equipment and basic construction work. We had to save as much as possible, but not to the detriment of aesthetics,” the founders of the bureau sayBetta Bereslavskaya and Daria Nuzhnaya.

“The layout was developed together with a retail consultant. We divided the entire space into two parts, and in the center we designed an island for vegetables and fruits. Felt lampshades with dried plant branches, made by artist Milana Khalilova, are located above it. They diffuse light in a special way, creating a feeling of warmth and comfort.”

“Before the start of the finishing work, we dismantled the Armstrong suspended ceilings and the old wall tiles. In order to save money, the walls were almost not prepared for painting. The color was applied directly to the remains of tile glue, thanks to which it was possible to create an expressive “living” texture.”

“It was expensive to order furniture from carpentry workshops, and we offered to make it by builders from the simplest materials. For example, an island for vegetables, shelves along the window and a cash counter were assembled from foam blocks, from which interior partitions are usually erected.”

“In working on this project, we turned to the ideas of the Italian designer Enzo Mari and his book Autoprogettazione, with which anyone can put together a chair or table using wooden planks, a hammer and a few nails.”
