Fire, sun and terracotta: Buonamici restaurant in Moscow

The name of the restaurant “Buonamichi” means “Good friends” in Italian. It sounds pretty traditional. But the designer Natalia Vologdina-Anikina was faced with the task of making not just an Italian restaurant, but, let’s say, its modern version

“The word “fashionable” sounded several times when we discussed the concept and color scheme of the project,” says designer Natalia Vologdina—Anikina. “Customers wanted the restaurant to be family—friendly during the day and turn into a trendy place with cocktails, music and a party in the evening.”

“The task was complicated by the fact that there was also an Italian restaurant in this space before us, and customers were asked to do “also Italian, but completely different.” At the same time, a lot, in order to save, save. The podium, for example, is almost entirely left over from the previous restaurant, I only extended it a little.”

“Metal structures play a big role in the main hall. This is, for example, a copper-sheathed bar, copper panels on the walls and shelving. All these constructions are very large-scale and therefore perfectly “collect” space.”

“As a result, I slightly reformatted the space, made the main hall more “party” due to the large bar counter and multi-level seating. I added copper trim, mirrors and a lot of light scenarios, and made the small hall more intimate, allocated a room there for a children’s room, which is nice to rent for family celebrations.”

“The main color was warm spicy terracotta and copper, we seasoned it with a juicy color of greenery, noble berry and gray-blue shade in the upholstery of sofas. And all this against the background of black-and-white graphics of walls, floors and ceilings.”

“And, of course, bathrooms! In the interiors of restaurants, these spaces require the most daring and extraordinary solutions from the designer. In Buonamici, the bathrooms turned out to be bright — each stall is painted in its own color — and very spectacular. Especially girls like to take selfies against the background of a large countertop and huge vertical mirrors in the entrance area.”
