The designer designed a comfortable interior for two, where she allocated more space for a nursery, and paid a lot of attention to storage systems.

Customers and tasks

The owners of this two-room apartment in one of the new residential complexes in Moscow are a mother with a teenage son. They turned to designer Natalia Shamanskaya with a request to equip their housing. “The hostess loves to cook and receive guests, so the wishes for the project included the creation of a spacious kitchen. The son is fond of sports and computer games, so one of the conditions was the creation of a spacious workplace. And also in the wishes there was a division of sleeping areas, places for games and recreation,” the designer tells about his tasks. It was also important to find a place for a washing machine and dryer.

Redevelopment

According to the original plan, it was a standard two-room apartment with a small kitchen, the same room and a spacious second room. There were also two bathrooms. The second room is separated from the rest of the space by a load-bearing wall, so the possibilities of redevelopment were limited. The designer offered to take her to the nursery, where they also allocated a dressing room. The sleeping area in this room was separated by a rack partition, and a small resting place was made at the entrance to the room.

The second room was taken under the mistress’s bedroom. It was decided to reduce it due to the corridor in order to allocate space for the closet in the latter. Also, a part of the partition with a doorway was removed between the corridor and the kitchen in order to visually combine these zones.

Another change affected the bathroom. It was reduced to expand the kitchen. This decision can be agreed if the apartment is on the top floor (as in this case). The second bathroom was expanded due to the adjacent hallway to find a place for washing and drying machines.
