We are used to seeing modern style, minimalism or Scandinavian aesthetics in a small area. This example proves that in fact, in choosing an interior style, you can not look back at the number of square meters.

Customer and tasks 

The owner of this apartment in the Moscow residential complex La Rue embodied her long-standing desire to live in the center of the capital in a historic building. The new apartment complex is a modernization of the apartment house of G.P. Lazarik, built in the XIX century. 

Among the wishes of the hostess of this small apartment was the organization of a full-fledged bedroom and spacious storage systems. To do this, she turned to designer Irina Lagoda.

Redevelopment

According to the documents, the apartments are non-residential premises, and the norms of redevelopment, which are relevant for residential apartments, do not fully apply here. This opened up opportunities for bolder redevelopment. Also, the organization of the space was influenced by the high ceilings of 4.2 meters. Such initial data made it possible to make the second level of the mezzanine, where the bedroom is located. Under it there is a bathroom and a spacious storage system. On the first level, a compact kitchen and a living-dining room were placed. 

Finishing

For wall decoration, paint in a light beige shade was chosen. The wall covering was supplemented with thin moldings and aged mirrors enclosed in frames of moldings. It turned out not only to visually increase the space in this way, but also to add chic and grandeur to the interior.

High ceiling cornices and baseboards serve the same idea. On the floor in the kitchen-living room and on the second level, an engineering board was laid with a “herringbone” classic pattern for the chosen interior style. The narrow corridor is decorated with hexagonal tiles of two colors, laid out in such a way that the pattern resembles a Metlakh tile, another reference to the historical context of the interior. 

In the bathroom, porcelain stoneware was used to match marble on the walls, and the floor was laid out with the same collection of tiles as in the corridor, but in a different color. An aged mirror also appears here above the sink. Part of the mirror is enclosed in a frame, a large reflective surface helps to make a small bathroom twice as large.

Furniture and storage systems 

The compact kitchen was equipped to the maximum: there is a hob with two burners, a built-in oven and a dishwasher. The upper cabinets are designed for storing dishes and other kitchen accessories. 

At the entrance, a cabinet with mirrored facades framed by moldings was built in on the right. This storage system is completely invisible.

There is another spacious storage system under the stairs, where a refrigerator and a washing machine are also built in. In the bedroom area there are two spacious wardrobes for everyday things. 

A chest of drawers was provided for small things in the bedroom area, and a sideboard in the living room area for beautiful dishes and books. In the bathroom there is a spacious cabinet under the sink. 

Lighting

The general lighting was decided by spotlights, a massive chandelier with glass pendants was placed on the ceiling in the kitchen-living room. On the walls there are sconces with lampshades in the form of candles. In the bedroom, bedside readers were used as additional lighting, and sconces were also provided in the bathroom on the mirror by the sink. Floor lamps near the sofa help to create a cozy atmosphere in the evening.

The interior turned out to be light, airy, modern, very comfortable to live in. Reflects the mood and energy of the owner of the apartment with exquisite taste. The painting “Lotus” by artist Igor Maikov was chosen together with the customer, it adds an atmosphere of lightness and magic.
