Svetlana Kuksova, Anastasia and Evgeny Russky shared solutions that they do not use in interiors, and explained why. Take into service in the design of spaces, it is not always necessary to be guided by obvious concepts like “fashionable” and “outdated”.

There are techniques that eventually lose relevance and become obsolete. We used to call them anti-trends. But at the same time, designers have their own list of “anti-solutions”. And it may not depend on fashion. It is about solutions from such a list that we will talk today. 

1 Curved layouts

The layout of the apartment is the basis of a successful interior. You can develop a beautiful design project, but convenience begins with the layout. And for designer Svetlana Kuksova, beveled walls are a solution that she tries to avoid. “For me, symmetry, “portality”, maximum logic and ergonomics in the use of every centimeter of space are important, explains Svetlana. If there are a lot of areas in the layout that “don’t work”, then this is a bad layout, in my opinion.”

2 Bathroom tiles only

It would seem that the tile is a universal finish for the “wet” zone. Practical and for ages. However, designers have long been moving away from the principle of laying all walls and floors with ceramics. Both Anastasia and Evgeny of Russia hold the same opinion. 

“In our projects, we propose to move away from the standard bathroom decoration only with tiles or granite and add paint. As a rule, the tile limits us to a certain palette of colors (if you take a tile not for stone textures). It is difficult to find a tile of complex shades of green, blue or other. Therefore, paint is a great alternative. If not the walls, then you can paint the ceiling and 15-20 cm of the walls from above in the same color, so you will give the room originality,” the designers say.

3 Colorless interiors

The color allows you to make the interior alive, to place accents, to fill with meanings. “One of the techniques that I don’t use is the lack of color in the interior or one “accent” wall, the color of which is not supported anywhere else. Working with color is very important to me, I like subtle color relationships, complex combinations where there are more than three colors. The gray-white simple interior is not about me,” says Svetlana Kuksova. 

4 Plastic window slopes

When installing plastic windows, it seems obvious to make the slopes the same as a beautiful “kit”. In fact, it’s not like that. Anastasia and Evgeny are Russian against this decision. “A budget, but impractical and definitely ugly technique, the designers say. Plastic will sooner or later start to move away from the walls, there will be gaps. At the joints, it gets clogged with dirt, sometimes turns yellow. The easiest way to make slopes for painting. The options are more complicated and more expensive slopes made of granite, wood.”

5 Lack of art, vintage and original decor

Accessories complement the interior, but it is important which ones. The purchase of template decor items may not bring the desired result. About vintage things, it’s not for nothing that retro has been relevant for several years. This is not only a tribute to history, but also a concern for the environment, the opportunity to reuse things, give them a second life.

For me, the interior is always about people, and it is such details that fill it with soul. When “everything is new” and there is no manual work, it’s boring. I can build the whole interior around the “vintage vase of the customer’s great-grandmother”.
