Decorator Mia Karlova told about her new project

This project was not like the others from the very beginning. I almost don’t undertake alterations. The project, as a rule, consists of a full cycle: from planning and decorative solutions to the final implementation. When we met the owners of the apartment, the task they planned to entrust to the designer was the selection of furniture.

The work on the interior was very memorable: I have never met people with such a natural sense and understanding of fabrics and surfaces before. Each time when choosing upholstery, several options are considered. The landlady of the apartment could be offered a choice of fabrics without names and brands, and every time she unmistakably chose the best and highest quality.

This is how Loro Piano Home Collection, Hermes, Mark Alexander fabrics appeared in the upholstery of furniture. We were looking for expressive techniques together, I suggested a drawing with large graphics in joinery, and the interior as a whole turned out to be more of an American mood.

Pretty quickly, decorative solutions for almost all rooms were found, and it remains to decide on the bedroom.

We were looking for an option that would maximally meet the need for personal space, not in the family, separated from the pulse of public life, but in the personal, where you can be alone with yourself.

Bathroom. Walker Zander tiles – each tile is unique, covered with glaze and craquelure and can be an independent work of art, like a faience plate. But all the panels in the ensemble reveal an extraordinary depth and volume, which is especially noticeable in the bathroom, where there is no source of natural light, but various scenarios of decorative lighting are designed. During a short vacation in Paris, I went into one of the halls of the Louvre, and the interior was formed instantly. A few days later, the sketch was presented to customers, and a week later, samples of fabrics, wood and accessories were approved.

Wall panels, mirrored bedside tables and a bed frame are made according to sketches by Mia Karlova in Sergey Kartashov’s studio. Table lamps with mother-of-pearl elements, Baker. The soft wool headboard of the Loro Piano Home Collection is made in the workshops of Loffilab and Kulagin & Partners.

In the design of the bedroom walls, the beryl shade of Zoffany Doufour paints and the rich blueberry lines of the cornice and skirting board are used, gathering the space into a luxurious frame.

A curious incident happened with the children’s room just a week after the project was completed. The young owner of the room conducted a physical experiment with a purple crystal, as a result of which the light laconic wallpaper from Ralph Lauren in an elegant thin stripe was complemented by a large picturesque spot.

Fortunately, high-quality and proven products do not fail: wet cleaning and drying, and the next day there was no trace of the experiment.
