In February 2022, the fashionable Downtown L.A. Proper hotel opened in Los Angeles – a new project by the star designer Kelly Westler, who has been cooperating with the Proper Hotel chain for far from the first time.

The hotel is located in a building in the style of the so—called California Renaissance, which has experienced many different reincarnations over its long history – from a chic private club to a Christian Youth Women’s Association. From the latter organization, the pool of the 1960s with an area of 35×12 feet (10.67 x 3.66 m) has been preserved, which Kelly and her team turned into the main decoration of a new luxury suite with an area of 258 square meters. meters.

The Pool Suite is located on the seventh floor of the building and is one of 148 rooms designed by Kelly. The Omgivning bureau was responsible for its architectural solutions. “Studying the layout at the very beginning of the project, we discovered that the pool was originally located on the same floor with the guest rooms. So we thought it would be great to make a luxury suite with a private pool here,” says Kelly.

The room has its own kitchen. Its floor is tiled with Italian marble.

The furniture for the room was purchased in vintage outlets in the USA and Europe.

To transform the space, Kelly turned to a ceramist from Los Angeles, Ben Medansky, with whom they had already worked together on the Proper hotel chain in Santa Monica.

The artist created a large-scale ceramic wall panel that decorated the wall by the pool and became the main wow element of the entire interior of the suite.

“I tried to avoid repeating the pattern and tried to make each tile become a separate work of art, there are no two identical,” says Medanski. — I drew inspiration from my trips from Los Angeles to Arizona and included tire drawings, road signs, cacti in the design. I reduced them, made them as abstract as possible, mixed them up and put them together in the form of a puzzle.”

The walls in the room are painted in a rich ochre color, which Kelly loves so much. The dark wood floor and the tiles in the bathroom of brown-red tones successfully harmonize with it.
