Style: Julia Chebotar Ekaterina Gracheva’s customers, a married couple with a ten-year-old daughter, live out of town most of the time, but decided to get a “weekend apartment” for visits to Moscow. They needed a place where they could stay overnight after an evening trip to the theater or stay for a few days if they wanted to spend the weekend in the city. The apartment was supposed to give joy, but at the same time remain functional. Kitchen-living room, fragment. Photo Sergey Ananyev. Style: Julia Chebotar “The hostess travels a lot and is in love with France,” says Ekaterina, “so we decided to use French motifs in the interior. This is not a stylization, but a modern interior, but with a French imprint.” White color, moldings on the walls and antique items brought from France are responsible for the classics in this interior. There are not many of them here — the apartment should not turn into a museum. French fleur is created by hand—made finishing elements – fine interior work supports French traditions. Dining group. Style: Julia Chebotar The kitchen, living room and dining room decided to combine, and the central place in the combined space is occupied by the dining room — the main axis, which goes from the entrance to the house, falls just on it. In an apartment with a “French fleur” this is how it should be — in France, a good dinner is given great importance. The priority of the dining table is emphasized by a plaster bas—relief made especially for this project by sculptor Leonid Kim (Kim Art Studio), which performs another important task – visually separates the dining room from the living room. Photo Sergey Ananyev. Style: Julia Chebotar Ekaterina made the kitchen small and as inconspicuous as possible, because there are no plans to cook lunches and dinners in this apartment. The stove here is two—burner – to make coffee, hot chocolate or warm up a quick snack, this is quite enough. An antique fireplace mirror of the XVIII century, located opposite the exit from the dressing room, is the most interior item in this apartment. On the shelf to the right is another antique: a bust of Joan of Arc. Photo Sergey Ananyev. Style: Julia Chebotar Hallway, fragment. A washing machine and an ironing board are hidden behind the doors. Style: Julia Chebotar The bedroom turned out to be small, because she had to share her area with the dressing room. “We were not afraid to put a huge double bed here. There is a template by which this cannot be done, but I believe that it is possible and even necessary,” the designer is sure. A large object breaks the proportions: the room seems larger than it is. In the framework of plaster moldings to the left and right of the bed — hand-painted, spikelets and flowers (painted by the artist Inna Makarova). This is a memory of Provence with its meadows. Therefore, both bathrooms are decorated as part of the interior, and not as just sanitary facilities with a certain functional load. In the bathroom of the bedroom, the French theme is supported by vintage lithographs that Ekaterina bought at the ArchMoscow-2022 exhibition. Bathroom attached to the bedroom, fragment. Style: Julia Chebotar The nursery is designed in the same style as the whole apartment. The wall behind the headboard was supposed to be covered with wallpaper with a print by William Morris, but due to a series of different events, the wallpaper never came, their place was taken by a custom-made Affresco panel with the same cheerful lemons as Morris. Style: Julia Chebotar The designer is proud that she broke a bunch of templates in this project: in the guest bathroom, for example, one of the walls is completely free of tiles. It is painted, with plaster moldings, in which, as in a frame, the works of the artist Sima Brankovich are enclosed. “I wanted this wall to become a background for art, not for plumbing,” says Ekaterina. Style: Julia Chebotar The balcony was decided to be left open so that the owners and their guests could get out into the fresh air. There is a large wardrobe located here, which, thanks to the mirrored doors, has become invisible. Photo Sergey Ananyev. Style: Julia Chebotar Balcony, fragment.
