Modern house for a large family in Australia Design 06.03.2022 Decus Interiors needed to design a house in which as many as three generations of the same family were to live. Australian architects coped with the task perfectly Photo Dave Wheeler Margaret River is the center of winemaking in Australia. The area of vineyards is more than 5,500 hectares, and the climate is as similar as possible to the Mediterranean. A great place for a large family to settle here! That’s what the owners of this house decided when they bought a plot in Margaret River. They invited Decus Interiors studio to realize their dream of a large family home. “We were made clear that there should be no references to the “seaside” style in the design — all these whitewashed walls, wicker lampshades, corals, sailboats and blue-and—white stripes,” Decus Interiors designers say. Photo Dave Wheeler No, so no! For the interiors, they chose a modern style and a light natural range, in which the white color is complemented by greenish-gray and pink shades. They needed to unite three generations of the family under one roof, allocating their own personal space to each. As a result, they decided to divide the house into three zones, each of which has its own decoration. The first is designed for the life of older family members, the second is for a working married couple and the third is for a young family with children. Where children live, a brighter palette was used, in other areas — more restrained and neutral. They lined the wall in the hallway with a double-height ceiling. The furniture is mainly used locally. There are also original details like the bronze handle of the entrance door and an unusual lamp in the bathroom designed by Mario Nanni for Viabizzuno, which serve as the “cherry on the cake”, giving the interior a perfectly finished look.
