Modern ranch in Texas Design 01.06.2022 The team of Tim Cuppett Architects has designed a cozy house where the owners can enjoy the beauty of nature and spend time with friends and family Photo Whit Preston, Paul Finkel A few years ago, during an educational tour organized by the American Institute of Architects, the owners of this house in Texas saw the residence of architect Tim Cuppett for the first time. They were so impressed by the cozy atmosphere that reigned there that when the couple wanted to build their own holiday house, they naturally turned to Tim Cuppett Architects. The houses, built of red cedar and corrugated steel, are distinguished by simple laconic forms that harmoniously fit into the surrounding landscape. The main building and guest houses are connected by a wooden platform, on which children constantly run barefoot. In a separate building there is a garage and an art workshop. Nearby there is a living room made in a dark blue shade: saturated colors and contrasting combinations are especially liked by the hostess of the house. The decor also reflects the tastes of the owners — most of the items, including vintage ones, were selected from their extensive collection. The main “feature” of the living room was an unusual open fireplace. Part of the wall and floor are lined with refractory bricks, so that the fire can be lit directly on the floor. There are no upper cabinets in the kitchen, the working area for cooking is located right by the window. Everything you need is stored in the pantry, which is decorated with wallpaper with the image of chickens. The architects wanted the owners to be able to admire the local scenery from any part of the house, even from the bathroom: a free-standing bathtub is located at a huge corner window.
