Entering this apartment, it seems as if you are transported to the seashore. Not southern, hot, but on the contrary, northern, Baltic, with greenish shades of salt water and cool ochre sand dunes. This complex, but harmonious and balanced interior was created by designer Elena Karasaeva for a married couple of fifty-five years.

This is not the main housing of the apartment owners, it is used during their stay in Moscow. He is a sailor, a diplomat, she is a designer. “A prerequisite was the creation of two bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as the integration into the interior of a glass table — now placed in the kitchen — brought by the owner from Germany more than 20 years ago,” says Elena.

Taking into account the height of the floor on which the apartment is located and the beautiful views of Moscow City, it was decided to leave the windows as open as possible. As for the color, the owners preferred the soft complex shades of the Baltic Sea.

There are many mirrored surfaces in the interior of the apartment, complicating the space. Complex color transitions, surfaces and textures with various imperfections and flaws, organic materials, carpets and textiles, which clearly demonstrate their natural origin, refer to the aesthetics of the Wabi-Sabi style.

But perhaps the most unusual items in the apartment are souvenirs of its owners, like a vintage clock in the hostess’s bedroom or a gift to the customer from a colleague from China.

“The most important thing in this project for me is the emerging feeling of harmony of a dynamic environment and a calm, balanced space at home. This is a mix of a bygone era and functionality, but not without an aesthetic component,” concludes the author of the project.
