Photo Chris Tamburello When the designer Fawn Galli was approached by the head of an international hotel chain, who purchased apartments in the popular resort of Boca Raton in Florida, she only needed one look at the space to understand what his ideal refuge on the ocean coast should be. One of Galli’s favorite trends – the tropical modernism style, which originated in the middle of the last century in Sri Lanka thanks to the work of Geoffrey Bawa – perfectly matched the atmosphere of the place. Photo Chris Tamburello Everything is planned around stunning views: part of the panoramic windows overlook the lake, and the other – the ocean. Galli was faced with the task of combining two apartments and creating a single space with four bedrooms. “I wanted to fill it with romance and find the right background for the owner’s contemporary art collection,” adds Galli— “to make it welcoming, suitable for noisy parties.” Tropical flavor fills all the spaces of the apartments. Photo Chris Tamburello Inspired by the language of tropical modernism, Galli brought smooth curved shapes to the interior. This is read in everything, from the decor of the ceiling to the crescent sofa that took center stage in the living room. Another find of Galli is an installation in the form of a constellation on the ceiling, created with the help of built-in spotlights. This technological technique was complemented by vintage Italian sconces, including those designed by Joe Ponti and Oscar Torlasco. Kitchen. Walnut doors, Galli notes, evoke tree houses in the jungle and add warmth to modern architecture. And terrazzo floors, one of the designer’s favorite details, are created according to her drawing. They again evoke the waves rushing onto the shore — a motif that united all the spaces. “The white-green palette reminds of Brasilia of the 1960s,” says Galli— “I wanted to turn the interior into an eternal celebration!” www.fawngalli.com The bathroom is attached to the master bedroom.
